And why is this so?
Does the atheist man embrace the all powerful state as a replacement to the God he does not believe in?
Apparently so.
And so a world of atheism will mean a world that is not free and I don't want it.
Mostly because we don't want Christian laws being enforced on us. We generally differ on economic policy, though, some rejecting state power and identifying as libertarian.
General rule for the two major American political parties is that one wants strict government control over moral/ethical rules and lax regulation for economic concerns. The other party wants lax control over moral issues while strict regulations in place for the economic sector. Neither one is anarchy and neither one is tyranny.

Because in the last forty years the Republicans have become an arm of the Evangelical movement.

Not sure how old this PEW report is but I thought it'd make an interesting read...

Not sure I get the point of your edit. Am I now not allowed to say 'Howdy' on the forums I helped create? Or was it the fact I mentioned Libertarianism that offended your delicate eyes?

The Democratic party platform did not mention God even one time.
Neither does the constitution, so why should they?
On the other hand, when Romney mentions 'god', you know it's not your god, right? Mormons ain't Christians.
Quote:You left out the Libertarians, they would definitely fall under the umbrella of "conservative,"
Incorrect. Libertarians span from Chomsky on the left, the Anarcho-Syndacalists, to Ron Paul on the right, Market Libertarians and anarcho-minarchists. There are those who are in the middle too, like Russ Feingold, who are big on anti-war(voted against wars), anti-infringement on civil liberties(only vote against NDAA), small government, but with some welfare and socialised healthcare. Libertarian doesn't = conservatism. Libertarian does = anti-totalitarian state.

Show me that communism doesn't punish success and reward laziness. Show me that communism doesn't always result in a corrupt state that has total control over its citizens. Show me any government that has total control over its economy and doesn't drive it into the ground.

Communism is a fantasy. When applied to reality, it's disastrous.
However I believe a mix of socialism and capitalism and would lean to more socialism then it is now.
