LOL she is saying nothing more than you are saying anyway so the only rationale I can think of for posting it is that She can say it better or that she is scarier than you and on both counts I agree but nothing has changed.

You so far have failed on all fronts to bring one wiff of reason or evidence to support your world view. You have been crass, illiterate (still deciding if that was deliberately so) and ignorant of anything other than your pet hypothesis. Your ideology has been tolerated but not accepted and still you feel YOU will succeed where 500 others have failed?? What arrogance!

OH I know what I am and I know better than anyone its not a pretty picture so sticks and stones. But my primary reason to stay will not be ARROGANCE though there are times I can be arrogant ( i make no apologies for being human and imperfect) , my primary motivation will be HOPE, even if that HOPE is that I may cause some new members or even old not quite so sure of their position to keep questioning it. Of course if you guys are worried I might succeed then then don't tolerate me , KICK ME out, until then I'm here, enjoy it Wink

I find it funny that the one thing our Christian visitors rarely do is try to live up to the standards of their founder that they all seem to agree on as top-notch. We know you've thrown out the 'give all your belongings to the poor bit' (clearly a metaphor not meant to be taken literally), but turning the other cheek, loving your enemy, not casting the first stone...it's rare to see an internet Christian who even pretends to try.

Frankly, one who merely shows integrity and forthrightness in their posts is a refreshing change, and the best way to earn our respect.

When I realize I can't support what I'm saying, I don't have to weasel. If I still think I'm right despite the fact that I can't articulate a cogent defense of my position, I can say that. Just because someone out-argues me doesn't mean they're right, I'm entitled to have a think about it before I change my mind. So are you.

Don't know your bible do you?? And you are very selective of what you hear and read... confirmation bias at it's best dear Markus.

They simply cannot deal with the fact that we think their religion and their god is nothing but horseshit, Kichi. For some reason the religious have always found differing opinions to be highly threatening.

I think it is due to a personality flaw.

They are all assholes.

So what were you expecting me to do? Do you think I haven't heard so many of these arguements before in some way shape or form. Did you expect me to type out a full refutation here and if I did would it change your mind or would we be doing the old burden of proof again.

And anyone whose can say " ..well I guess the idea of the Holy Spirit as an idea is absolutely ridiculous. The Holy Spirit is someone who impregnated Mary against her will so I guess the Holy Spirit is a rapist, how fantastic is that he raped a teenage girl, that's umm super awesome there Holy Spirit.." and you ask me to re read the bible based on what this Girl say's displays she knows more than me.

She has already displayed a complete lack of understanding for what the Holy Spirit is as regards Christian belief and describing it as capable of raping someone when it is incorporeal ( Lacking material form or substance.) and also implies it was rape because it was against Mary's will when the Bible clearly reads "And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her." the summary Mary's says it's OK.

LAME, REAL LAME. on so many different levels.

You are almost as good as me at generalising ( not one of my endearing traits ) but your assuming that all those points about Christian Living are not always on my mind and that I don't often consider what judgement I will have to face as someone who sits in comfort, well fed and safe in the west living of a world society that ensures my comfort at the expense of so many. If you believe that I somehow feel superior in any way to you is actually wrong if anything by my own belief I may be worse of than you in the end. But I continue to live my life as best I can within the limits i'm set and hope. So just because you can't find a Christian that can live upto Christ does not mean we are wrong or that we are not trying just that we are human.

Not as generalizing as it might seem at first glance. I was specific about them being Christians who visit this forum, and I said it's rare, not completely absent. When it happens, we respond well. Who'd a thunk it? I'm not one of those atheists who joins a theist forum to have a go at getting them to think critically about their beliefs, and most Christians aren't the Christians who join an atheist forum hoping someone will be reached by their posts.

There's a difference between trying and failing and failing to try. We're not talking about an 'oops, slipped up, sorry about that, my humanity got the best of me'. We're not talking about someone who usually takes an unkind or even unfair jab in good grace, and occasionally shows a bit of temper. We don't expect Christians to be perfectly Christ-like, that would be unreasonble. If they really believe what they're saying, though, it should be evident that they're trying. I'm not sure most of them really believe they should turn the other cheek and love their enemies, though.

I'll give you four stars as a good example of the best of Christianity in comparison to our current Catholic du jour, though. Smile

IS it the pent up aggression of theists along with their pent up incapability to sexually express themselves that brings them to our little neck of the web??

Valid question.
What actually brings these theists here, when everything in their so called 'holly book' says they shouldn't come near us??

Not very valid considering Jesus came into the world not to save the righteous, but the sinners!

And Anti's seem to think all christians, specifically Catholics have very productive sex lives!!

Anything else?

You have omitted, or are ignorant to the MANY NEWER TRANSLATIONS that are NOT from the LV at all!

Catholics don't concern themseleves about translations of the "old testament"? It's an important historical reference to...

...a New Covenant with God. The Gospel!

Why are you (as a christian) trying to force more divisions between us? Aren't there enough here already? There is more to find in union with us.

JESUS!

For someone challenging us, you are not very knowledegable about the Catholic Religion.

Read my statement(s) above.... You either don't read very good or your comprehension is low.

But I'll give you a clue! The Holy Spirit is the real Teacher. You can actually find that in your version of The Holy Bible!

And, my question to you was rhetorical...but I didn't really expect you to recognize that either.

You are only the latest in a very long line and not one of you has succeeded yet.

But knock yourself out mate, if only for the lulz.

A true Christian knows that he is responsible for HIS OWN SALVATION.

But.... we "are also responsible" to spread the Word of God. And YOU listen. So, our mission is complete!

The only way you could succeed is to provide us with demonstrable evidence and reasoned argument to support your claim that a god exists.

What else do you think would get us to question our position?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

i would suggest that "demonstrable evidence and reasoned argument" was not the primary reason you took up the position you have but the secondary one that has now acquired the status of the first. Did someone give you demonstrable evidence and reasoned argument when you committed yourself to atheism or were you moving in that direction and started looking then for the above? So I would hope to move someone and then maybe they can switch to reverse and gradualy find the subjective evidence that I have been given.

That's what the 'Ignore' function is for. However, if you really want to play the martyr and decide to be kicked, either break the rules (not a serious endorsement; merely making a point) or request to be banned (again, not intended seriously). Contrary to popular misconception, nobody gets banned purely for having a different point of view.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
