Atheists, the death penalty and abortion...
RE: Atheists, the death penalty and abortion...
Since one asked.

On a related note, the Muslims in Saudi Arabia have considered suspending public beheadings because they are running short of swordsmen.

read here.

So obviously, some dogmas not only accept capital punishment, they enjoy it so much that they make a show of it. "Get your popcorn...your hot dog..."

Of course, nobody would do that with abortions, right? Pay per view, like the beheadings? So going down that road is just silly.

I agree with when there's the possibility of danger to the mother and in cases of rape, but what other "morally acceptable" reasons can you think of?
.

None. You make your bed, you lie in it.

I'm anti abortion, other than in cases of rape, danger to the mother, child so disabled it would have no quality of life for example
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Oh yeah, suffer a pregnancy and a horrific birth for a child you don't want, then let said child suffer a childhood being raised by a resentful mother who never wanted them in the fucking first place. What a wonderful situation.

Are you against treatments for illnesses caused by certain lifestyle choices for the same reason?

Death penalty: Sure, but it's costly and, in some cases, the criminal is worse off serving life in prison.

Abortion: Up to the mother.

Keeping it simple.

Or simply avoid getting pregnant. Problem solved.

If you do get pregnant, then deal with the consequences

Dunno, never thought about it, give me some examples.

Not sure how it would compare to killing unborn babies though.

Wow, nobody ever thought of that!
The fact is, accidents with contraception happen. They always will happen. Risks are also taken from time to time. Shit happens.

Abortion is an awesome way to deal with it if you don't want/can't afford a(nother) baby.

Heart disease caused by an unhealthy diet. Diabetes caused by an unhealthy diet. Lung cancer or lung disease caused by smoking. STIs. Gum disease caused by not brushing properly. Malaria after not taking the full course of anti-maleria tablets. Colon cancer from eating red meat. Etc. Etc.

Abortion is illegal except where it is deemed medically necessary when the foetus is developed enough to be considered a baby, so that's nothing to do with this debate. We're talking about removing an unwanted parasitic growth in the uterus that could develop into a baby if it isn't removed.

Death penalty: I could perhaps support it in principle (for a few heinous crimes), if it wasn't so flawed in practice. So instead, I'm all for rehabilitating offenders who can be, and separating those from society who cannot.

Abortion: I'm not personally crazy about the practice. However, it is my view that it's a personal moral and medical issue between the woman and her physician. I have personal friends who have had abortions and I certainly think no less of them because of it. I'm OK with outlawing late-term abortions in cases where there is no medical need or other overriding consideration.

The same species as your hair.

Yes one of my children was an "accident" (through carelessness not failed contraception) - we dealt with the consequences. We made our bed, we laid in it.

I can't help it if I'm pro life, it's just the way I'm wired. I don't agree with convenience abortions, never have done, never will do. Though yes, I do realise that I can't just force everyone to think the same as me, and in a free country then the abortion question has to always rest with the individual.
