Took the kids to a local pool today. We all had a good time, but I noticed a woman who was probably not having much fun... A Muslim woman, wearing the full get up, only an eye slit. This is DC summer, it's 95* out, and of course her get up was black. Her sons were happily playing around in board shorts. Her daughters were wearing special head scarves and knee length outfits with sleeves to their elbows. I do believe I caused some embarrassment in the women's changing room as my boys were getting dressed while her girls were changing Oh well... I felt bad she couldn't cool off like everyone else at the pool. Women are not equal in Islam, anyone who says else wise is lying.

Let her go back to Saudi Arabia if she doesn't like it. The youngest does whatever his brother does and insisted on the same. There were no private parts seen by anyone. I'm just paranoid about sending the older one through the men's room to change by himself...
I went to Bahrain a couple times when I was in the military and saw a lot of women dressed like that. There was a woman begging for change in the same get up you saw. The only skin you could see was her hand.
I think it's a deplorable way to treat women.
Everything I needed to know about life I learned on Dagobah.
I went to India and saw many women in burkas... but their burkas were like bedazzled and shit. o_O
I really wonder how many of these women would wear these types of get ups if they weren't pressured by their culture...
I mean, she's in America, obviously if she had worn a modest swimsuit, no one would have even noticed and I wouldn't have posted this. I wonder what would have happened if he had worn a swimsuit? Would her husband have found out and punished her in some way? I am not convinced in the slightest that any person, male or female, would want to wear a black tent on a 95* day. Forcing women to wear this is cruel... And why black? Why not white or a pastel? Why the most heat-absorbing color possible? It's just mean... Not to mention that she then had to schlep her 4-6 kids to the pool so they could cool off... It's horrid. On another note, I've seen women wearing these types of outfits while shopping for designer clothes. I get that they can wear regular clothes at home, but come on! Buying a knockout, expensive outfit for no one but your husband and family to see?? Not property my ass RE: Seen Today at Local Pool

I saw it on Little Mosque on the Prairie. Quote:Allowing men to see women in their bathing suits is haram. There ain't nothing "haram" about this.... Sadly though, in far too many cases women are their own worst enemies for tolerating this bullshit.
You know this is also a cultural thing. My grandparents have the youth group from a Vietnamese church over to swim every summer. The girls and guy go separate, and if there are any girls with the boys they stay completely clothed even if they get in the water. When the girls come over the youth pastor and my grandpa stay in the front yard. It's not the same as a berka, but it's similar.
I think I've said on here before that I wandered onto an Orthodox Jew forum and saw them discussing whether or not it was okay to uncover their hair to swim in an all-women's indoor (thus shielded from outside eyes) pool.
Repressed people are fucking weird. I can barely be arsed to put on clothes in my condo, and we have a full window wall. |
