I wish I could have given you double kudos for that. The ignorance of circular reasoning is so blinding, and why? It got me for so long and I have never felt a freedom as pure as I do now. Sure, it(the realization that god's non-existant) makes other things harder like death and the realization that I dont have some supreme being looking out for my every move (i can only speak for myself on this-others have no problem here) . But we are stronger within than we give ourselves credit for. The stain of Christianity is one of the greatest promoter of self-defeat (imo). This person opens up a thread about atheism and agnosticism to promote their christian-based philosophies on two 'faiths' (if you can call them such). Not against freedom of speech, but come on. Makes me drift further away from religion.

I claim this thread is proof of how much ground the theists have lost, now they have to resort to intellectually bankrupt arguments of trying to define our terms for us.

Let me break your argument here down for you: The bible tells you it is god's word, and you believe it... despite that being precisely what a lie from the devil would also tell you... as it has been the case with all those other gods you assured us are false gods to tempt us away from the one true god... who looks, sounds and acts exactly like the fake ones.

Your argument boils down to "I know god is real because this is the deception I have willingly allowed to envelop me like the carnivorous jelly it is."

Incidentally, if the bible is proof of god, is the koran proof of allah? Or does your special pleading only work for your chosen version of god?

Oh, and when are you going to address the comments I made in my first post to this thread? They cry out for answering.

Unfortunately, that assumes that christians have any interest in words and what they mean when they make these arguments. They don't; what we're looking at here is a transparent attempt at recodifying every concept the writer can get his hands on to avoid having to prove anything whilst foisting as much trouble on the opposing "side" as he can.

It's not a legitimate argument. It's a propaganda salvo in a theological "war" that only the christians are fighting.

Well, I personally refer to myself as a skeptic, because I am pretty much skeptical in almost all things. It brings about a fair amount of gridlock in my life, but I'm OK with that, mostly.

So what did we learn today?

That atheism fits agnostics and gnostics, just as theism does.

That no one is obliged to believe in a faery unless they can shoulder the burden of proof that none such exists.

That those who believe in the "one true god" invariably do so for reasons which amount to "I just decided to do that - and then wonder of wonder... you know the rest".

That beliefs based on the bible are still looking for reasons to support such trust.

Did I miss anything else of consequence?


I believe in no gods not because I can make the case they do not exist. Rather, I believe in no gods for two reasons. First, because they are too poorly defined to search for or to recognize even if you had one in the palm of your hand. And second, because there are too many fictitious or fanciful claims made by all sorts of folks, ranging from the deranged to the misinformed, to justify spending time researching each and every one. My first reason amounts to "WTF are we even talking about" and my second reason is that I just don't care, life is too short to waste on silly stuff.
