Cardinal Dolan: The Catholic church isn't anti-gay

The Catholic church won't accept gay marriage because they can't procreate.

According to the church, its [not] a sin to be gay. It's a sin to [act] gay.

It's not natural. PERIOD

And teaching our children that it is?

Case-in-point: I have 2 friends that watched their daughters struggle in their adolescense with "gay feelings". And because they had gay family members, the teens were "nudged". Both teens have since gone back to their natural genders, and are dating men. Unfortunately one of them had reconstructive surgery.

This is happening more and more in our society! Young people are being "pushed" into major decisions, for what might "have been" just a bump in the road! Its wrong!

I've mentioned here that I have a gay daughter. We let her decide her direction on her own. Unfortunately, there was no shortage of other gays pushing her in that direction! I, and my wife bit our tongues through all of it. out of respect and love. And we are glad that she is happy now. And we love each other dearly.... despite our differences theoloically.

Sterile couples can't procreate. Neither can older couples who get married. What about those who get married but don't want kids?

Are their marriages not real marriages, either?

The topic of sterile couples seems to come up a lot when people start talking about sexual relationships. I don't think I ever come up with a good counter for that when I was against homosexuality.

Didn't you read? She wouldn't be gay if other gays hadn't "nudged" her in that direction.

"Nudging?" Is that what they call it?

Quote:If reports are accurate, Pope Francis may have confirmed a rumor of many years, that there is a “gay lobby” in the Vatican. He didn’t mean to, since the remarks were “off-the-cuff,” as The Daily Beast reports, and in a private audience. But once made, and then made public, you can bet the demands for action will be loud and strong.

At least with all the white robes they don't have to worry about cum stains.

It is when you want to deflect the responsibility for "sin" away from a loved one.

Then again, believers can also dispense with the fiction that one's sexual orientation is a choice and just accept nature/reality for what it is.

All in all, despite his disgusting beliefs, it seems that ronedee handled this about as well as I would expect of a staunch Catholic. I'm glad his daughter is happy.

Indeed, and his acceptance of his daughters sexual orientation makes him IMHO a much better person than the average Christian in a similar situation.

But I have to wonder how he reconciles this with his churches declaration that all gays are destined for hell.

Exactly. I think the whole idea of "it's OK to be gay, just don't have gay sex or have thoughts about having gay sex" idea is pretty silly. Why would God create someone with an attraction toward the same sex, but torture them with the idea of acting on their sexual impulses being sinful? It's like God is some sadistic tyrant who enjoys watching people suffer. So God made all these gay people gay but won't allow them to get married, and if they have gay sex he's going to send them to Hell.

Of course, it's a step in the right direction compared to all the homophobes who claim that being gay is a choice and those who do choose to be gay are evil perverts worthy of death. But that's like saying that Ann Coulter is less extreme than Hitler.

Religious idiots think that their god tests people on a regular basis, and that they must overcome the trials and tribulations in order to become closer to their god.

How they misconstrue such an obviously sociopathic characteristic for love is mind boggling.

I hear Mother Teresa was real big on that. she made buildings to keep people who were in pain, but didn't do anything to alleviate their pain because she thought it brought them closer to god. Some people have a strange definition of love and mercy. Justice as well. This of course is just to explain why some christians have worse lives than other people, despite their faith. Why else would some devout christian starve to death on the street, while an atheist sits in a two story house surrounded by loved ones and no worries about monthly bills?
