I have a powerful desire to know why the universe exists and our purpose for existence as individuals. I don't see science as a way to discover this. Do atheists search for the same thing and, if so, what is their source or method? I think most atheists don't see any purpose at all.

Make your own purpose, don't be satisfied with someone else handing you their's.

Thats a good question. Though m not atheist , but I would like to answer it anyway.

We were all created for some purpose. Everyone has some purpose most likely different than the other. Its on the individual to discover what purpose he's been sent here for. Our God wants to put us in a trial and then reward those who would be successful in this trial. He may have set some other purpose too for creation of this universe. However , the universe is the perfect abode for this trial. Our deeds can be best tested in this ideal condition.We are told to do good to Humanity , discover the secrets that lie behind the veils and stay away from lust. Dont you think the creation of universe , our coming into this world and our death is in virtually accordance with it ??

As said in Quran ," and the heavens we created with might (power) and we are expanding it."

So you basically wrote down some piece of teaching from your religion. But how do you know it is so? It's only an assertion, the argument is missing why I should believe it.

Thats a good question. Though m not atheist , but I would like to answer it anyway.

We were all created for some purpose. Everyone has some purpose most likely different than the other. Its on the individual to discover what purpose he's been sent here for.

I agree that we discover our 'purpose'. It is a poor description of the process to think of it as something we manufacture. But it needn't be anything assigned to us by a magic genie.

Sure we discover what gives us satisfaction and meaning in our lives. In exactly the same way we discover what flavor of ice cream suits us best. No god needed to implant a favorite flavor of ice cream. The source probably varies between the foods you're exposed to earlier in your life, the associations you have to some of them and some variation in our constitution.

Our preference in ice cream flavor and activities/experiences which give us the highest satisfaction in the realm of purpose are not arbitrary decisions on our part. It is appropriate to call them things we discover. But there is no reason to think what we discover is sent by a higher power.

Let's set aside my religion for a moment and consider myself to be an atheist. There a lot of secrets buried inside what we see as apparent. Wind ,nature, rain. There a hell lot of things which ask us to ponder over them and to think over the existence of some Supreme authority. If you think , it becomes clear that universe was definitely created for some reason. And we will come close to it on the last day. Does not it make sense to you ? That our lives are not meaningless. Good and Bad was born simultaneously. We are here to perform our deeds. I may be wrong or right. I dont know. Everyday , I wake up in my bed and look outside my window , my first stare sets at the beautiful nature surrounding my house. Then the sky. The birds. THen I feel the wind. I feel as if they all are trying to tell me something. When the birds chirp , I try to decipher what they are trying to say to themselves. I m here for something. God is testing me. He has watching over all of my actions. And while , I enjoy the beauty around me , m aware that all is Immortal. Universe was meant to end. I hope you are getting me ?

No, nobody is getting you, mostly because what you're saying has no basis in facts. We know, exhaustively, how the sky and the wind and the rain work. There's no mystery there; it's physical processes, no magic required. We can also take a pretty good guess at what the birds are trying to say, and most of it is sex and food.

When you say you look around and see that the universe was made for a purpose, that's another assertion; you can't validate your first assertion with the same assertion, made in more flowery language.

M not associating my first assertion with next one. I'm trying to explain my first assertion though in some other way to make you understand. I can explain the idea more perfectly by quoting Islam but I dont want to.
