What do you think will happen, if all humans became atheists ?

The major changes(in my opinion) would be :
1.The governments will increase their fundings on researches and scientific experiments , and thus science will advance very quickly .
2.Space travel for anyone .
3.no more wars .

1. Possibly, though there is no necessary connection between atheism and enthusiasm for science. I suppose some atheists are relatively indifferent to science and spend little time investigating it, and it doesn't follow that there would be a corresponding increase in research spending (especially in resource-poor nations) just because people gave up belief in the supernatural. In an entirely secular world there would still be plenty of room to quarrel over how taxes are allocated.

2. I fail to see the connection. Space travel for even a few is a damned expensive proposition. Space travel for anyone is a technological and money issue, not a god issue.

3. I seriously doubt this. People being what they are, they will likely always find things to fight over -- especially in a world of ever-increasing pressure on vital resources. If people start slaughtering each other over access to fresh water, will you attribute that to a resurgence in religious belief?

Where's the "never gonna happen?" option?

1) Atheism is not a "thing" but rather a rejection of a thing.
2) Faith is part of the human condition.
3) Fucktardry is endemic whilst religion is merely an excuse.
4) Dodgy

1. Remember those days when someone firmly believes in god so he doesn't want to go to the doctor ? cuz he thinks that god will cure him , what if that guy was a politician also, do you think he will try to help science improve one day ?
maybe if he was an atheist , he would have tried to fund the same medical researches that is trying to find the cure for his illness .
There is a connection.

2. when science improve , the methods for space travel will be easier, more available and cheaper .

3. as I said before , soldiers are the main reason for war , take their beliefs in god out and most of them won't go .

What?!?! Young men are full of piss and vinegar and old men full of schemes and ego; that's why wars happen. Religion is just an excuse.

I see nothing in your response that invalidates my points.

With regard to #1, I didn't say there was no connection (and allowed for the possibility that research funding could increase); I merely said there was no necessary connection. There is just so much pie to divide, and the money could be legitimately spent on programs that don't advance science (though I would hope a significant amount would be so spent).

#2 is likely true, provided the advances are related to the technologies needed for space travel. I still don't see what that has to do with theism/atheism. The U.S. made great strides in space exploration, in spite of its high rate of religiosity.

Your retort in #3 is, frankly, bullshit. Soldiers take oaths and follow orders. Their religious convictions are not the only -- or even necessarily most important -- factor in whether they fight. To say that soldiers are the reason for war is nonsense. The orders come from above, in most nations from civilian authorities. And as regards their not fighting just because they shed religious belief, haven't you heard of the Red Army? Stalingrad? Please. . .

#2 NASA's fundings is low and should be increased . It is low cuz people think its not important to increase it , cuz their limits is "god in the sky"....so why bother explore the universe?

#3 so far , no one agreed on my third point , I'll leave this one to the future .

What do you think will be the major changes ?

I don't think religion will ever go away, simply because it seems so deeply ingrained in us. Also, you will always have people who refuse to 'see the truth' so to speak, and will quite literally die believing their nonsense rather than admit that religion is wrong and that the logical position is atheism.

As for space travel for everyone, what does that have to do with religion and/or atheism. At the moment I don't think space travel is high up anyone's agenda because it would cost to much and the world economy isn't exactly in the best shape.

Finally, there is no way that if everyone became atheist we would suddenly see the end of wars. Wars are not fought simply because of religion. Granted, religions are often used to justify wars, or to give them some kind of meaning, but I think that fighting would still exist simply because people still aren't going to get along, even if they all share a common disbelief in the existence of God.

I didn't vote, because I don't think religion will ever be a part of the past. It is too much a part of humanity. It may become marginalized at some point, but some major world issue will spark it back up again.

1) I think the correlation between religiosity and science mindedness is spurious. The correlation that exists is with intelligence and lack of religiosity.
2) As mentioned before, this isn't a god issue. This is a "it's really damned expensive to escape earth's gravity" issue.
3) Wars happen because we as humans are egocentric, territorial, and superstitious. Only one of those reasons would go away without religion.

BTW, I joined the military because I wanted to be a jet jockey. And the Naval Academy is a shit hot education, and it was free. And I would be able to play football.

READ THIS

I really wanted you guys to share your vision of a future with no religion and the major changes in it ,.... instead of judging my 3 private opinions .
maybe i'm wrong about all of them , but what I really wanted is to see is your future prediction on this subject .

RE: What do you think will happen, if all humans became atheists ?
I don't have a vision of a future with no religion. I don't think everyone's mind is equipped to cope with life without the pacifier. I think the net outcome for humanity would be a bad one. On one hand, a lot of bigotry, hatred, superstitious idiocy, and fundamentalism would go away, but on the other hand, it would create an enormous vacuum that would get filled with who knows what? I don't know. I'd rather deal with the known.

I would hope that religion slowly gets marginalized and that a humanist movement would take over. I just don't think it's realistic to think of a world with no religion.
