We didn't get more intelligent when we became atheists. We just got more information.

And most importantly, we corrected ourselves when we were proven wrong. We didn't hang on to our beliefs after they were proven wrong.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

If people making an unexpected recovery from illness is proof of God, what are we to make of apparently healthy people suddenly dropping dead?

What are we to make of all the children with similarly ominous medical conditions who DIDN'T mysteriously get better, but died, to the irreparable heartbreak of their families? Did God think those children were less special?

Or is it just that we don't yet know everything about disease and that sometimes incorrect diagnoses and prognoses are given?

If you're sure enough in your faith to believe it exists, you're not going there.

If you don't believe it exists, you don't believe you're going there.

Either way there is NO reason to believe you're going there.

I disagree. I didn't consider my family "fucked up" as they raised me in the Christian faith. I don't think that we should view people who think differently as fucked up. :/

I think religion in and of itself is fucked up, but it can be taught with good intentions.
