Actually, yes I can, because it's in the bible: the creepy incest subtext is there, but it's not the main thing. What this really is is a way to extend ownership over a woman's body to a man even before she's sexually active. Gone are the days of being able to sell your daughter into marriage, and this is just another way to scrabble for the old regressive bullshit in the modern era.

The idea is that, from birth to death, these women's sexuality and reproductive choices will be controlled by a male figure; her father until marriage, and her husband from then on.

The Bible preaches/teaches female oppression, and that women should be submissive to men. It is downright frightening that people get away with things in the name of religion, pushing the envelope, and using religion to exuse their depravity...when in the secular world view, it would be seen as criminal!

In this story, the girl will go from her dad controlling her every move, and making all her decisions, and instilling her with guilt should she have a mind of her own...to a 'husband' someday taking over that role. This is precisely how women enter into abusive relationships and remain there. They were oftenmolded as kids in religious homes, to accepting men to control them. Probably also witnessing their fathers control their mothers, as well.

I have daughters, and although I don't want them to suffer the pain of the consequences from jumping into sex before they are ready, I counsel them to realize the the change in dynamics the introduction of sex has in a boy girl relationship. As for the other risks, std's, pregnancy, and the like, I try to train them on the good science of germ theory and disease and I am willing to supply them with contraceptives.

I don't own my daughter, she is simply a creation of 50% of my DNA that I love and care for.

Gah. One more example of men trying to control females. Why are religious men so obsessed with owning women and girls? Leave them alone. The only person who gets any say in your daughter's virginity is your daughter. It's fucking creepy for a father to be so interested in his daughter's vagina. I grew up with sub debs and debutante balls. I didn't go through it myself, but I do remember at one of my friends' balls, her father presented her with a purity ring, down on one knee. I remember thinking it was weird at the time, but now I find it downright creepy.
