Why don't we know the date Jesus rose up from the dead?

Quote:why don't you debate with christians using the accounts christian's used?

On points of history I'll discuss the flaws in whatever "evidence" they put forward. But, and I realize that English is not your first language but you did a pretty good job, you have to realize that Josephus, being a non-canonical text, does not cause them the same distress as the gospels when it is torn to shreds.

Were I to walk up to you and slap the man standing next to you in the face you might be upset but if that man was your father you'd take it far more personally. Similar emotions are involved because they consider the gospels holy or some such shit.

I agree! And what really frosts me is when the resurrection story is treated as if it's an undeniable fact. I especially hate it when there are newspaper articles at Easter and the reporter writes something like, "Services were held around the area as Christians celebrated the resurrection of Jesus." This kind of writing assumes that "Jesus" truly did rise up from the dead. It SHOULD read, "Services were held around the area as Christians celebrated what they believe to be the resurrection of Jesus."

Big difference.

Thor why would that bother you an article like that does not infringe on your rights it makes no direct comments toward atheist. What christians believe is just as relevent as what atheist believe. I say this because neither side can 100% prove their view.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Atheism isn't a view that demands proof. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Bertram Russell's "Celestial Teapot."

Quote:If I were to suggest that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit, nobody would be able to disprove my assertion provided I were careful to add that the teapot is too small to be revealed even by our most powerful telescopes. But if I were to go on to say that, since my assertion cannot be disproved, it is an intolerable presumption on the part of human reason to doubt it, I should rightly be thought to be talking nonsense. If, however, the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time.[1]

It bothers me because they are treating mythology as fact. And, in doing so, they give credibility to a story that deserves none.

And another thing that bothers me... We have DirecTV. Recently, one of the movies being broadcast was "The Ten Commandments". When you highlight something on the program guide it provides a synopsis and categorizes the show. When "The Ten Commandments" was highlighted, this appeared: "Movie; Drama; History". I about choked! "HISTORY!?!?!" So, it's an historical FACT that Moses spoke to a burning bush? It's an historical FACT that Moses parted the Red Sea? It's an historical FACT that "God" sent an angel to kill every first born son? This is the kind of bullshit that gets under my skin.

Try again. Your link is unclickable and I can't find anything in Wikipedia to corroborate this.

I found it and once again he picks and chooses. Here is the whole passage.

Quote:Although there is no final consensus regarding the specific year or day, it is generally agreed by biblical scholars that it occurred during the governorship of Pontius Pilate (between A.D. 26 and A.D. 36) on a Friday on or near Passover (Nisan 15). Several analyses based on astronomical data and computer simulations agree on the date Friday April 3, A.D. 33.

What this means, G-C is that your gospels are bullshit because this date (which is apparently based on nothing except a belief that the story must have happened) means that John the Baptist could not have been arrested for protesting a marriage that had not yet taken place and therefore your so-called 'jesus' never started his ministry as those books claim.

Good luck getting the knots out of your scrotum trying to work this one out.

Quote:Larson received a B.A. degree in philosophy from the University of Southern California. He graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the United States' oldest honor society. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Law Center, where, as an intern, he prosecuted misdemeanor and felony offenses for the Los Angeles District Attorney. He also served as a Judge on the Law Center Court.

Larson entered commercial litigation practice in Los Angeles with the "small but influential" (L.A. Times) firm of Kadison, Pfaelzer, Woodard, Quinn & Rossi. There he was involved in litigation in the fields of securities, antitrust, interstate landsales and intellectual property.

So what he is, is a lawyer who, just like you, happens to believe in fairy tales. He is a layman who desperately wants to believe in your fairy tale god and, he has a web site where other fools can come to be awed.

Big fucking deal.

Min you are right he is a lawyer and it's in his nature to seek out the truth unlike your practice of skirting around the truth you do not want to hear. You who will take unresolved issues and make a grandstand on them just to show others that you think you have proofs on those issues.

Larsons belief is not desperate he is firm in his faith and he proves that point by taking nine scriptural points and matches them with proofs outside of scripture.

You talk about me judging others what do you call what you do.

Why don't you get Larsons DVD and watch it since you are not willing to read what christians present as answers to questions posed by atheist.

Great ammo to use on the fundies! Could you give a little more background here? I'm not too familiar with what you're referring to. If I'm going to use this, I need the full story.
