It's actually better if people read it so they can know how to combat the crazies who take it literally.

Twilight and 50 Shades.

Twilight is pure Thesaurus rape. Which is kinda sad, because the story itself is pretty good. It's just the abysmal writing that ruins everything. We get it, Stephenie, you discovered thesaurus.com. No need to use it on every word in your book.

50 Shades is just a poor Twilight fanfic that doesn't really make a lot of sense. James seems to have taken writing lessons from Meyer. Awful writing. Truly awful. All of the "sexy" scenes are either crap or kinda awkward. I don't understand the hype at all. I read more erotic novels when I was 14 and my Mum gave me her Jackie Collins books to read!

How about crazies who take it seriously?

How about crazies who take it seriously?
Or better yet... How about the crazies who misunderstand it entirely?

Or perhaps even better still... How about the crazies obsessed with criticizing it? Cool Shades

Obsessed? That's kind of harsh.

Avoid 99% of all fanfiction. 50 Shades falls into that category for me, and I did to 50 Shades what I've done to many a craptastic piece of fanfic: read the first pages, decided it was shitty, and moved on.

I can definitely agree about fanfiction, I have yet to even read a decent fanfic. But yeah, 50 Shades and the Twilight Saga are utter shit.

I have always maintained that the idea for the first book is interesting but the writing sucks and the story doesn't even start until the baseball game which is like 2/3 of the way through the book!! I also loathe Bella (she's got no personality and I can't figure out why she's inexplicably popular) Edward (who's a controlling prick) and Jacob ( who is the least objectionable of the three but still unbearably overbearing about Bella.)

I've read some decent stuff, even some stuff I would call really good, but the return on investment isn't high enough to warrant the time it takes to find the good stuff.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
