Why It Is Not Too Late To Repent And Turn To Christ

Instead, we get how "merciful" it is that he saves anyone from hell, and how "just" a god that would sentence us to eternal punishment for finite crimes is.

You are a follower of a religion that completely inverts the meaning of moral terms in order to fit them to a god that doesn't deserve them. The bible is basically a handbook for doublethink.

I respectfully disagree. Have you ever read the Bible from beginning to end? Or perhaps, like most on this forum, just jumped around to atheist sites that pick and choose a handful of Scriptures out of context and twist them into a pretzel? Not buying your scrutiny of something you never really studied.

But we are all telling you that your method here is failing spectacularly. This isn't just my opinion. Read over the posts in the two threads you have started. You are not being successful at all.

So if your mission is to help us, (a notion which is at the same time presumptuous and condescending) then you need a change of tack. You are telling us things we have all heard a thousand times before, and we are just swatting you away like an annoying gnat. If you wish to be taken seriously, (and I do admit that I am making an assumption here) you need to come up with something more substantial than one-liners and personal experiences. These are not compelling at all.

If I can compel even one person on this site to Christ I would be overwhelmed with joy.

In an interesting comparison, whenever I've seen an atheist actively try to deconvert someone on a religious site - not just debate, but actively try to deconvert people - they have almost universally been banned.

Another comparison is many of the religious videos on YouTube. They almost immediately turn off comments and ratings, whereas atheist videos do not.

Agreed. But every time someone has pointed this out, he has rebutted with "I'm sorry you feel that way." I was attempting to stay away from that statement sticking to objective statements. At least that is the way it started, then I failed spectacularly at that.

But, no matter. Any time someone has made a statement challenging Rev's motive, he's not answered.

Esquilax made multiple pleas in the other thread that I sincerely wished he would have answered, but it might have made him think...

I believe I replied to them. I have a lot of people I am responding too and may of overlooked some. Please link me to anything I didn't reply to. Anyways, I don't want to duck anything.

Dear Sir,
I am not God nor claim to be. I am merely a servant and according to several of you, doing a poor job at that.

I am so sick of that lie. You may think that if you repeat a lie over and over it becomes the truth -- that is simply false. You have a religion. You have a sacred text, a magic cupcake in the sky, prayer, church, etc. There is a word for that and it is a fucking RELIGION.

Redefining words to mean or not mean whatever you want them to is dishonest.

If you want me to join your cult, you are going to have to do better than that.

Try again.

To me religion is trying to follow a set of rules or traditions to try to relate to God. Jesus, is real, and I have a relationship with Him. I worship Him as God. Jesus created everything and will be King over all the earth.

You are constantly ducking everyone! Every time you post, you completely ignore the challenging portion of whatever you are replying to. Case in point: your last response to my post. Would you care to respond to any of it? Your reply was actually stated already in my post.

"To me" -- you begin -- yes, you are redefining the word 'religion' to suit your purposes. This is dishonest. You just want to make it seem as if your religion is some how unique among other religions and it is not.

Your Jesus character lives only between your ears. This is obvious to those of us who can see you from outside of your brainwashing bubble.

This magical-beediddly-thwap in the sky that you claim to worship is you. If you really had a connection to an all-knowing being then you would be able to provide some evidence of that. And the very best that you give us is -- it says "dickety-fuckety-doo" in a magic story book.

Do you think that I should be impressed? Honestly -- have you provided a single piece of information that I should find the least bit impressive?

I like this passage: you start off asking me a question, but by the end of it you've clearly already decided on an answer before I could even respond which, to me, demonstrates that you had no interest in anything other than smearing my credibility rather than addressing the points I made.

In answer to your question, yes, I have read the bible through. It was a while ago now, but I still own a bible, too. My fiance, who's also a member here, used to be a fundamentalist christian. I know it might make you feel better to pretend that all atheists just haven't read your holy book, and that they just don't know what they're talking about, but that' a strawman built to do nothing but shore up your own beliefs against questions and comments you can't answer. The majority of us have read the bible, especially since a lot of us came from religious backgrounds. I'm an exception, because I didn't, but I'm still familiar with your holy book. You don't need to lower yourself to attacking the character of the person, rather than the content of their argument.

And you can "respectfully disagree" all you want: come back with an actual argument, and that might even mean something.

I don't believe he's actually capable of actual argument. Or of directly responding to a direct challenge. He did get snooty with a thinly veiled threat earlier, though, don't remember whether it was in this thread or the other. Something about "you'll see how civilized it gets when the prophesies are realized." Good times, that.

Just what is it you think you have to offer me?

Few of the people I care about in this world subscribe to your particular brand of bullshit, so I have to assume that they won't be in your heaven. 75% of the people I have ever cared about are already dead.

I have no desire for an eternal existence. I have no desire for, or need of salvation.

Your god, as portrayed in your bible, is - in my estimation - not a good example of a moral or righteous power, and furthermore, appears to be evil, and an enormous cock to boot.

I can be an ethical, moral person without faith.

I repeat - what precisely do you think you have to offer?

You disappoint me, Rev. What is it? Can't manage to find an answer for the really tough questions? Not even a single trite platitude?

Or is it just that you think my heart is so hardened that I'm beyond redemption and am destined for hell?

Here's a question for you Rev. Have you ever STUDIED the bible from beginning to end? Well, I did, because I was once studying to become a minister. The fact that I started seeing the bible as a pile of shit, what does that tell you? From your answers, and the way you word things, I can almost guarantee you that know very little about the book you keep spouting on about.

I do have a lot to learn that is for sure. I feel like your situation might be the saddest of all. I can't judge your heart but I do know that there are those who have read and even studied the Scripture and still the veil over their heart remains. I still hope and pray that someday soon you can with a humble heart and spirit revisit the Word of God and He can open your eyes to His glorious plan for us. Till then, yes, I need to continue to learn myself and study. Blessings.

I am sorry you have been hurt and disappointed. I admit, many Christians, including myself, have done a poor job of representing Christ. I have to offer you hope and love through Christ. He loves you deeply regardless of what you think of Him. I don't have all the answers to tough questions. I do not believe your heart is so hard that it is unreachable. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate at it and I will pray even though you might think that is an exercise in futility. I believe it is powerful and want to stand in the gap for my angry cloud friend.

No, I am planning on starting a thread to specifically address some issues about evolution. That thread I am hoping to have more logical debate.
