I detect sarcasm but let me interject this: If you live in Massachusetts where minimum wage is way lower than here, would you want to work were the minimum wage was 3-4$ higher?

Probably, did you know many many americans are leaving the country for Europe? Wonder why?

Actually it isn't, as a once homeless veteran in that EXACT situation I can tell you that if the police catch you, at least in certain areas they pick you up.

The city I was homeless in it was a crime to be homeless. They would pick us up or try to all the time.

Homeless shelters are a joke too, they aren't really shelters, and they are filthy, unorganized, you'll get sick, most likely robbed, hell my buddy almost got raped there.

I knew many homeless folks that had jobs (haha ironic right, their jobs never paid enough to get off the streets. All they could get)

So since they were not paid a living wage they never made it off the streets, I had a job while homeless too, but rent was too high, didn't have the money for a car, bus was $10 a day. by the time I got or would have gotten to a shelter (they typically close at 4, so if you are not in line waiting, you don't have a bed)

So kind of stupid really.

Why is it okay to tell me to just go live behind a dumpster if I can't afford to put a roof over my head, but to tell an employer to pay his employees before he pays himself or the shareholders fat bonuses on top of already overly-inflated salaries is just wrong?

I'm not telling you to do anything actually. Our conversation really is going in an unproductive direction. Let me redirect it if I may.

First of all I will state that I am interested in a system that everyone can make at least a bare living. But, please answer my original question.

Oh goodie, a question not directed to me. I would counter by asking why the masses of Walmart employees should provide the status quo to the Walmart heirs? Isn't the status quo which puts so much power and opportunity into the hands of the advantaged also a kind of "forced providing"? I believe that " ..when in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another" there is good precedent for the many to throw over the few.

The great advantage of a fair social contract is precisely the avoidance of such upheaval. Personally I don't appreciate being forced to subsidize the workers at Walmart so that the ownership can get still fatter. Under the status quo that is precisely what is happening. The question isn't whether or not to force anyone to provide anything. It is rather a question of what happens when we stop providing the existing respect for precedent.
