Fantastic Parents

This had me weeping. What a confusing thing for a parent and the kid to go through. These parents did great, IMO.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

That was truly beautiful. No doubt there'll be zero-minded idiots with nothing better to do than shit all over that family but parenting never came with a manual and what those parents did shows nothing but pure love for their child.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

Thanks for posting this Steel. My only hope is that more and more parents of transgender kids will react with the same grace, love, and compassion that this family has given their little Ryland. I also hope Ryland grows up to be a voice of his generation. He's certainly got the support and confidence to pull it off.
I'm having trouble typing this, I'm so emotional. That family is beautiful.

That is so sweet! I hope more and more families start responding like this. Beautiful!

I also love the fact that neither do they blame their son ("What's wrong with him/her?"), but they also don't blame themselves ("What did we do wrong?")
They have a very healthy, and dare I say it, logical approach to the whole matter.
And nice choice of intro song. As though Jeff Buckley doesn't make me choke up a bit already...

It's pretty well known that young children are impressionable enough that if you repeat something often enough, they'll come to believe it. I find it hard to believe that they couldn't convince their daughter that, while it's fine to like boyish things, and hang out with boys, that she's still a girl.
But you know, if they want to spend money to turn their girl into a boy, and all three of them are happy with the results afterwards, more power to them I guess.

I wish there was a middle finger emoticon.

I'm actually more open minded towards this new transgender thing than I was towards homosexuality when I was younger. You don't have a "with us or against us" mentality, do you? I just consider myself neutral.

If you were neutral, you wouldn't have said anything at all.

I'm pretty sure people are allowed to respond to things that they don't feel strongly about either way. I'm not trying to be condescending or anything. I was just giving my thoughts on the matter.
