Is it possible to understand a theist?

Hello all, the topic of the post is the main theme of why I'm here. I'm sort of doing research - trying to find out more about the duality in theists I often observe. Post here if you know a place I can look up!

BTW I'm missing the part on sociology, right near atheism, theism and philosophy. Which forum would be the most suitable?

In general the current interest of mine is how come the theists do rationally think in all areas except the supernatural creator/caretaker? Obviously, they do leave home before bus is due to arrive. And they are able to accept an explanation of why glass is transparent and the brick is not. In particular they will acknowledge that a reasonable course of action or explanation is indeed plausible. And then they tell you one has a soul and do not want to talk about single-embryo twins (dunno the medical term, you get the point).

Not condescending, not biased, I want to try to talk to people about this, especially theists. How such conduct does not tear a person apart. Becuase it does not, there is some mind trick to overcome such conflicts in place and I don't have it. Are there theists around here too? A big welcome to all of you and I'm looking for to some interesting talks.

There's such a thing as suspension of disbelief.
Some use it only for obvious fiction, like the X-men... others can't turn it off for the god they were raised to believe in.
The brain is a tricky subject!

Your assumption that theistic belief is de facto irrational is condescending and biased.

I think you need to know the difference between advanced rational thought and basic intelligence (the caveats you mentioned as being dualistic amongst theists) when it comes to your understanding of theists.

Depends on the theist. Some are quick to distinguish faith as their driving motivation for belief and would readily admit to faith and reason being mutually exclusive.
