13 Countries Where Atheism Is Punishable by Death

The map is complete and utter nonsense.

There's a law on the books that allows for up to one year imprisonment for publishing blasphemous libel, but it is not enforced. In fact, the last time a case was tried was in the 1920s, with no conviction. So, it's ridiculous that NZ was included.

True.

I think every country still has silly old laws on the books that people simply can't be bothered removing.

I think there's on in a US state, that I read years ago, that requires people driving cars to stop, get out, and discharge a firearm into the air at intersections to warn other drivers.

How did India not make it to the map? We have anti-blasphemy laws here (an obscure and archaic residue of colonial era common law) which can and have been used to curb free speech. It doesn't happen very often, but it happens.

Most recently, Sanal Edamaruku, an Indian Rationalist, was charged under those laws upon a complaint from Bombay's Catholic branch when he showed that the water dripping from the feet of a Jesus statue (locally regarded as miracle and people getting in line to collect the 'holy' water) was actually sewage water. He has since fled to Finland.
Haha. An apt source.

Okay to all of you who complain about the map.
I just want to make it clear that I couldn't post the actual map(it's an interactive map remember). Because the forum didn't allowed me nevertheless heres the map.

you can cheek it for yourself.

And heres the study about that map.
So you can read it for yourself why the guys that created the map reached to that conclusion.

North kora is considered an atheist country. Or at least an irreligious one.

Technically North Korea is atheistic.

However, I don't truly consider them atheistic since they've replaced the worship of a deity with the worship of a group of individuals, as is true with many hardline communist countries.

Your map seems to be a pathetic attempt to try and make the northern hemisphere not look quite so bad - but it still has all the black flags. Even every South African country with a black flag is in the northern hemisphere.

Why bother trying to kill each other, when everything else in Australia is trying to kill you. Right?

I couldn't get those links to work. They keep timing out.
Apostasy casts a pretty wide net since it also includes abandonment of principles as well as belief. That is why I raised the question of North Korea. If I could get to that site I would like to see how that organization defines the term in concern to the map. Maybe they should have stuck with just blasphemy.

Seems to be a common thread among those countries...

They all boast high numbers of adherents to a particular "religion of peace."
