It is a true story about a free man who was abducted and sold into slavery, pre Civil war time period. The point of the movie though is to teach how one must have resolve and the desire to push on, even in the worst of circumstances, and adversity. It is a remarkable story, and I highly recommend.

Hey, there's the cold shower I've been needing all afternoon... :p

lol :p Sorry.

I tend to watch mainly somber movies. Undecided

Although, I do like romantic comedies. Maybe my next one will be that. lol

hmmm... There's a nice "somber" movie I saw a few years ago called "blood diamonds".
Go for it, if you want to ditch you girl's best friend! Wink

Oh, that was another great (and yes somber) movie. I saw it three times. Blush

Idk why, but I guess I like to learn about real stories of hardship.

If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.

No worries, at this point it was becoming a little necessary. Angel

I read the book. Thought it was just kind of okay. Wasn't as devastating as My Sister's Keeper was, but I think I had my guard up for FIOS because of MSK... Undecided

EDIT: Oh, and I totally thought it was going to end differently and I'm not sure (having not seen the movie) if it would even make sense to explain why and how I thought it would have the other ending.

Ohhh yeah! My Sister's Keeper was way harder hitting.

I didn't read the book(TFIOS), but in the movie there's a scene that is a definite "tell". I don't remember it exactly, but they played it too heavy in the other direction. Sort of like a magician'a assistant saying "Look over here." Having said that, it didn't detract at all.

There are two things that I loved about the TFIOS movie and these are things I thought set it apart and above similar offerings:
