Higher Education & Religion

RE: Higher Education & Religion
Learning about how things work is always a bad idea for anyone that bases their life around things that were written hundreds or thousands of years ago.

All religions are an attempt to assign some meaning to things that are not fully understood. Science and education diminish this ignorance as it sheds light on all the absurdities and inconsistencies of faith. Believers will always tend to shy away from anything that could change their delusion.

There are strength in numbers, that's why religion is so prevalent. If just ONE person believed in all the things in the Bible for instance, that person would be considered certifiably insane. But because millions believe, it can't be wrong, right?

People used to think the earth was flat. Many people still believe the earth is only 6000 years old. Science and education have disproved these "unshakable" beliefs, but religion and all the superstition and mythology that it encompasses have become so deeply ingrained that religion represents the most stubborn belief that people are unwilling to shed. My only hope is that one day, 100% of the population will agree that the earth is round. It's been around 400 years since that's been proven and it wouldn't surprise me if some people still don't believe it, or don't care - which is somehow even worse.

I skimmed through it and laughted at some of its articles. Then I stumbled on a quote made by a pastor in Africa, "We never encouraged the children to pursue higher secular education." At first I though this might of been a random case. I checked the Jehovah's witnesses's website, and found this gem.

Slave for Jehovah
Quote:Dedicated Christians live for God’s will, not Satan’s. Their delight is in the law of Jehovah, and they meditate on it day and night. (Read Psalm 1:1-3.) However, many of today’s educational courses allow little time for a servant of Jehovah to meditate and to satisfy his spiritual need.
Quote:Higher education, with its emphasis on academic study, often produces graduates who have few or no practical skills, leaving them unprepared to deal with the realities of life. By contrast, Jehovah’s servants choose education that helps them to develop the necessary skills so that they can maintain a simple life of service to God.
In their article, they are clearly against higher education unless if it's their higher education.

Is religion, in general, afraid of higher education? Opinions and insults welcomed.

When they talked about the skill shortage part, that's God's honest truth man cmon...you exit university, you have NO SKILLS, you are UN-HIRABLE. It's as true as 2 + 2 = 4. If I had to base my evaluation of whether or not the Watchtower is the word of God on that one phrase alone, I would be a witness...

And who is the big criminal buying 70M$ particle accelerators and building new science department buildings with graduates' money? The Universities. The jobless makers. SATAN.

Before I registered into my program, I asked the University advisor about the opportunities. She said, I will get a job in the field upon graduating. I graduated, got fuckall. A BIG fuckall.

I wouldn't agree that you are unhirable when you exit a university. If that were the case, no one would waste their time with a university. You can develop skills while your at university by doing interships and research.

Also, most of the university's money does not come from tuition fees.

I know the job market sucks, and it sucks more if you don't have any skills. However, it is not completely the fault of the university (unless you went to an overpriced community college). Universities have lots of resources that many students don't use.

Like what? I'll give you an example so you understand. I went into an interview with a 55 y.o. lady and she asked me if I know how to prepare and deliver power point presentations. I told her I was an expert, and that I had prepared and delivered over 100 presentations in ppt, many of which were animated, many of which contained VBA code or macros, many of which were considered the best presentations the group has made.

She stared at me in disbelief saying "ohh....hmm...and where have you acquired this skill?...in university...hhhhmmmm...I see"

What she was thinking was, Ohhh! I spend 15 years at the government, I done maybe...30 ppt presentations, I have acquired this skill legitimately, through hard work, and here's this idiot comming out of school, who got his skills unlegitimately...you know...he stole the skills and avoided jail time...and he DARES to claim he has skills, LIKE I HAVE SKILLS!!!! WOOOW!!! School! It's not real powerpoint they teach in school...it's toy powerpoint!

And I thought like ok...I mean...is this how you want to play this game? And I played their sick game, I went like ok, I'm a new graduate, I don't got many skills but I'm a quick learner, I'm interested, highly motivated: I am whatever crap you want me to be, for the time being. And this attitude brought me a lot of success lately, than to claim I have a skill as a graduate.

Like, have you actually gone out there to get a real job and market your university skills? Do you know what cunts and cocksuckers are out there? A 75 y.o. member of the executive cometee of **** association almost had a heart attack at our table in a meeting when he was mentioning how graduates dared to claim they had any skills at all...he was red in the face and was breathing heavily, and he was having a fucking heart attack. These are the babyboomer cocksuckers to whom you have to market your university skills!

They are mad, wicked, angry, irritable and disrespectful. They think it's ALL about them. They got old and lived NOTHING so far. NOTHING. But, what they can do is laugh at Rob Ford whenever he gets on TV for taking cocaine...as if their life was the utter essence of joy and well being.

Is anyone else wondering what it would have taken to push that guy over the edge? Devil
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

First off, the hiring lady probably has to do a presentation once every every month or more. She has bosses that she reports to, and has to present her work status & updates. So she probably did at least 12*15 = 180 presentations at her job.

Second, I have to do at least one presentation a week where I'm currently working. The fancy transitions, animations, etc.. are more often a distraction from the information your trying to present. So boosting about having those skill translate to "I can make a pretty presentation, but I don't really know how to properly convey the information."

Also, there is great resource called google where you can type "university student resources" and find some really nifty stuff to help students. Plus, all the professors at the university do some kind of work. You can ask them if you can help.

Finally, I hope your attitude at the interviews was a lot different.

So not being a pompous ass at an interview works, who would've known. Confusedhock:

News flash, "cunts and cocksuckers" exist in the workforce. And sometimes they're in charge of hiring. Confusedhock:

This reeks too much of projection.

By animation I mean making a drawing in Autocad, using flash to animate it in 3d and adding it to power-point as a VBA plugin. I am not talking about making words fly over the screen. That's retarded. I am not a retard, I am an engineer.

Thank you for your understanding.

And yes, I do convey information really well, in fact I also know what a conveyer is and I can make a full drawing of it in Autocad with full P&ID instrumentation also. I gives me a really high self-esteem that every time I present my skills to someone they tell me I'm boasting. Guess what, the pleasures I have in this life, you could never dream of and you got no clue where I have been, so boasting for personal gratification is the last form of pleasure that I could ever think of getting. These are my fucking skills and I can guarantee you that I present them in the most objective form ever! Reality leaves people bouche-bee...don't accuse me of boasting.

The rabble was the name of the uneducated people back in the early church days, they believed in anything that they were told by the so called educated priest, they even had the church mass in Latin, because the people couldn't understand, they just wanted to keep the rabble ignorant.
