Obviously you're addicted to money if you don't know how to deal without it.

I'm not talking about consumerism here, just survival
Money is a human invention, it's a guarantee that you can benefit from the fruit of someone else's work. For example, 20$ means that, instead of busting balls at home, someone has to sacrifice half an hour of his life to cook you a pizza and deliver it to you.
5,000 years ago there was no money and humans survived just fine. They lived less because they had no technology, but need I remind them that the technology was not developed by overworked collars, but by people like Newton, who were under the protection of the king and who didn't have to raise a finger 24/7. Newton, you know, he could have chosen to stare at the ceiling 24.7 and do nothing all day, yet he chose to bring benefit to the human race.
You cannot be a great thinker and get ideas if you're doing fuckall 40-60 hours a week, and then you're too tired to think or do anything else.

I can only picture him living off the land...
"Every luxury has a deep price. Every indulgence, a cosmic cost. Each fiber of pleasure you experience causes equivalent pain somewhere else. This is the first law of emodynamics [sic]. Joy can be neither created nor destroyed. The balance of happiness is constant.
Fact: Every time you eat a bite of cake, someone gets horsewhipped.
Facter: Every time two people kiss, an orphanage collapses.
Factest: Every time a baby is born, an innocent animal is severely mocked for its physical appearance. Don't be a pleasure hog. Your every smile is a dagger. Happiness is murder.
Vote "yes" on Proposition 1321. Think of some kids. Some kids."

Very easy, install a field of solar panels, build a water pool on top of that mountain to store energy as hydro that can be used at night, build a greenhouse, a house, install HVAC system, and there you go, you live off the land. Why?
- you're off the grid.
- you grow your own food. No need McDonalds either.

I think he was implying that the desert would be the result of Drama Queen's failure to live off the land.

This, and what Chad said
