No one should own a gun. If anything should be completely eradicated from society, it is guns.
From my perspective, criminals owning and misusing guns does not even warrant law-abiding citizens owning them no matter how responsible they may be.

I would rather eradicate bad people but until that happens I'll hold on to my guns.

It's not the criminals who worry me. It's the nuts.
And the careless, clumsy, bastards.

So the extent of the problem of idiots with guns is doubtlessly understated. And yes, my point is that even the most careful or "responsible" person can make a mistake. If you make a mistake with a knife, you may cut your finger. If you make a mistake with a gun, you can kill someone 500 yards away.
Now here is a tale which some people might consider "bad luck."
I consider it "Good Dog."

And the point which you refuse to acknowledge is that given tens of millions of gun owners, there are very few accidents.
Every car owner is an accident waiting to happen, and they do so with more regularity and a higher death toll.

And they worry me, too. They should worry every thoughtful person.

We disagree about the potential number of accidents, Chas. You refuse to admit that everyone walking around with a gun is an accident waiting to happen. I will concede that a gun, unloaded and locked in a safe, is unlikely to be much of a threat to a 3d party. But, then, what is the point of having it if it is too far away to protect one from his/her paranoia?
Anyway, back to work documenting the known fuck-ups of L-ARGOs which Chas insists are so rare.

Quote:HICKORY, N.C.—Two unrelated accidental shootings took place within quarter of a mile of each other this weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, a 42-year-old man in the parking lot of Academy Sports on U.S. Route 70 accidentally shot himself in the leg while changing the ammunition in his handgun.
Officers at the scene did not release the man’s name, but said his injury was not life threatening.
The day before, a 24-year-old man accidentally shot himself–also in the leg, and also while he was sitting in his vehicle–in the parking lot of Valley Hills Mall, which is adjacent to the Academy Sports parking lot.
The man was attempting to put his .45 caliber handgun on safety when it went off and hit an artery in his leg, causing life-threatening blood loss.
I can hear the fucking NRA now. "Putting your gun on SAFETY is dangerous. Don't do it!!!!"

It did not "accidentally" go off. They were playing with it and someone pulled the fucking trigger.

Quote:STILLWATER, Oklahoma -
Police in Stillwater are still trying to figure out how a man was accidentally shot in the head at a weekend party.
Alex Vierling, 21, was at a party after midnight Sunday in the 500 block of S. West Street. In a news release, Stillwater police state: "Initial reports indicate the shooting occurred when one of the party goers was handling a pistol they thought was a toy."
The gun fired and Alex was hit in the head. The former OSU student was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, just five days before Christmas.

Quote:Presumably, Charlene Ross was not happy when a shotgun went off Sunday morning at their son's Ohio home while her 77-year-old husband was checking to see if it was loaded. Presumably, the 75-year-old was especially not happy when birdshot struck her in the neck. But she probably now sees the silver lining: While treating her, doctors discovered she has an arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat, that could be life-threatening,
As "life-threatening" as being blasted with a fucking shot gun by some stupid bastard?

It's still a handful out of tens of millions of gun owners, so it is statistically rare.

How is it the reason? It's just a fact.
The reason is careless people, and that is also the reason for auto accidents.

We have already agreed that drivers are licensed and insured...unlike gun nuts. Let's not go around the block again.
Meanwhile, in Detroit....Santa's packing.

Marcus Weldon, 26, faces multiple assault charges, including assault with intent to murder, as a result of the shooting, which wounded two men early Sunday. Weldon's attorney, Gabi Silver, pleaded not guilty on Weldon's behalf at a hearing on Tuesday.
