I'm going to bet this is a fight of Christians from Germany V. Islam to make on religion prevail over the other and not exactly a protest against the evil of Islam as a religion. It's very easy to find a scapegoat, use some populist speeches, and pretend everything will be ok after we eliminate the potential threat, but nowadays people are too smart to fall into the same scheme, don't forget WWII.

That's a bold claim, a claim I cannot support by any observed evidence. Presenting scapegoats is still the favored method of populists and people have the same tendencies to fall into that trap as they had back then.

You don't even need that much. There are already countless anti muslim attacks ranging from vandalising muslim institutions to committing actual bodily harm. Just google anti muslim attacks 2014 europe and you will find many examples. I just did that and it pretty much conforms with what I have read in the papers this last year.

You can point to just as many horrors in the bible. The problem is not muslims its islam. If Christians can ignore the horrid bits in the bible then the muslims can do the same in the Koran. It's the devout ones that are the problem and they are the minority.

It doesn't matter what mohammed did versus what jesus did or who said what, the message for most people of faith is largely IRRELEVANT.

My point is that most people go along mostly ignoring the bulk of their religion and carry on doing what everyone else does.

It is the people who read the bible or Koran and act on I what it actually says that are the problem.

Most believers don't really do what the bible or Koran really say but have a faith that they temper with modern sensibilities.

Fact 1 - There are 90 verses in the Koran which command Muslims to imitate the prophet Mohammed.
Fact 2 - Mohammed beheaded a whole Jewish tribe, the Banu Qurayza.
Fact 3 - Mohammed beheaded poets who criticised him.
Fact 4 - Mohammed sanctions sex slaves as the spoils of war.
Fact 5 - Mohammed ordered or supported 43 assassinations.
Fact 6 - Mohammed commanded 65 military campaigns, and fought in 27 of them.

Conclusion 1 - Islam is a religion of "peace".
Conclusion 2 - A significant percentage of every Muslim population will follow the "peaceful" example of Mohammed and blow up unexpectedly.

The question for Downbeat is: how big does our Muslim population have to get before we have a serious problem (if we don't already have one)?

Obviously, the vast majority of Christians in the US are much better human beings than their ideology might suggest, something also true of the relativly few Jewish and Mormon people that I know. There are no Muslims in my circle, but I would assume the same holds true.

All religious ideology poses a potential threat, warping the people who hold into harming the people who don't. But that threat is evident in very few religious followers.

In Germany, and especially the east where this thing originates, people are not very religious on average. What they think is threatened is the "cultural" stuff that is loosely associated with Christianity in Germany. The "way of life". Can I drink a beer and eat my Schweinshaxen. Will Christmas be outlawed. Will people take out the trash on time and cut their lawns correctly?

The ones I went to school with were, so surprisingly, perfectly nice people. Even their parents were perfectly nice people. The kind of people you would want to drink an ayran with, as someone recently joked. To imagine that they let their daughter talk to me and stuff. Mindboggling.

Most people of any faith are nice.

It's the ones that take it seriously you have to watch.
