Mars?

RE: Mars?
Fuckin man kid. He better get his ass to Mars if he knows what's good.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Overpopulation hasn't caused any incentive whatsoever for people to move to Antarctica so I doubt it will be any kind of impetus for us to settle Mars. The population of the earth is going to level out and then decline steeply.

Haha, good point

It's still cheaper and more advantageous to stack people on top of each other. There's so much room to spare "up" that I doubt we'll ever "run out of space". Settling in Antarctica (as is) will never be more appealing than adding another story to your building- and we'll run out of just about everything else before we run out of space. Human beings aren't all that big, after all. The stuff we need and want takes up a hell of alot more room than we do - and a good portion of that is negotiable (and can also be stacked vertically).
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Pretty much this.

Barring physical catastrophe to Earth, I think we're more likely to see Earth become Coruscant than we are to see colonies on Mars.
Not that Martian colonies won't happen, just that building "up" is more feasible, and at least currently possible.

Add in, to this hypothetical, that any tech sturdy enough to go to Mars is going to be right at home here on earth and we'd just ditch the rocket and save money on gas. Still think we should go for it though.

Going to Antarctica won't get our eggs out of this one basket.

I agree that we should colonize other planets precisely for this reason. My point is people won't move off this planet because it is over populated.

What are you going to breath?

What are you going to grow?

Where will you put the cows?

And assuming there can be a 'science fiction' domed structure (while disregarding the resources necessary to build and maintain), what group of people can survive in a closed environment.

Talk about cabin fever. Confusedhock:

The more people we have the more crazy fucks we have, so it would be easier to get volunteers from the world as depicted in, say, "The Fifth Element". Thinking
