Sure, he may have SOME positive qualities. But when you get down to it, he's still a homophobic bigot just like the rest of his religion. 
Only religious morons would call an effort specifically designed to prevent the formation of families "defense of families". "Defense of families" is nothing more than a euphemism for bigotry towards homosexuals. Nobody's fooled.
In other news, abortion is "defense of children".

With popes and politicians, it's never "like" as much as "is preferable to".
As it happens I think the moronic things he's said of late are extremely damaging, but I'm not sure who to yet. It may server to expose what a crock of shit the whole thing is and highlight their hypocrisy. Feel free to send me a private message.

Well, to me, he's a minus one on the 0 to 5 Good Pope Scale. He talks a good talk, I like the fact that he isn't from Europe. But it's the same old shit. One of his first actions was to transfer several cardinals out of their respective countries just ahead of indictments. No doubt this was already on Ratzinger's "To Do" list. And he can blame it on the rapscallions appointed to the Curia (sp?) by Benedict as well, if he hasn't already.
His latest remarks on free speech sealed his fate, in my book.  By the way, I can't think of any Pope ever that's equaled or exceeded zero on my 0 to 5 Good Pope Scale. Perhaps the one who finally closes up shop over there?
