We had a Christian troll of sorts who wanted to debate the atheists in the IRC. I started to respond but then realize, I'd rather be working on my Dragon*con schedule. The person was acting like a pain, stating practically everything I said was emotional. I told the person he/she is welcome to post the debate in the forums. The conversation amounted to this person making blanket statements, and claiming that any response we made was an emotional response, and then absconding after stating his/her conclusions. Granted I did kick the person a couple of times, but I was trying to get the Christian to go to the forums. :/ We haven't had a very dense theist for some time, figured you guys might like the fodder.

Well, it was in the chat where there are no rules, and aloah is not a member, so you have not broken any rule.

I agree eventually this person may have been banned, but sometimes the preachy trolls can be a little amusing before they fly off the handle and get banned.

But I more posted this here in case anyone wanted a stab at tearing apart the statements, if this person ever does troll the chat again.

Interesting how there are a lot of believers (of the more fundamentalist kind, practically all of them) who insist that EVERYONE "worships" something or other-- if not their one true god, then it must be one's own ego, or something. They can't conceive of a life that is not devoted to some "god" or other, even if it a false one.

This says more about the mindset of the believer than anything else: his/her perceived need to be connected to something assuring, granting some kind of security in a world that obviously grants no such guarantees. It all simply comes down to fear and insecurity. These are biological needs projected into the metaphysical-- or in more down-to-earth terms: wishful thinking (though the term "thought" may be debatable).

Also to add: Hence the obsession with a variety of syllogisms connecting a god to "morality"-- that god in question is supposed to be the believer's metaphysical guarantee that they are safe from harm. And the more insecure the believer, the more the outrage at those who don't believe the same thing (and consequently, the more fundamentalist they likely are to be).

Oh well, you know, crazy people and all.
They like to assume that because you've chosen not to debate and they're fired up get on their opressive master's good graces, that means you're avoiding him because you're wrong and won't engage him and not at all because you're doing something or whatever.

Classic troll psychology.

Not to sound like a 15 year old who thinks his parents hate him because he or she is 'too real' for decent clothing and studying, but many of those christian types just don't understand us or anything outside of the belief system they were indoctrinated into, much less the scientific explainations, ideas, and theories for all the things they tend to rally against.

Someone really should find some of the documentation on effective methods of de-brainwashing people and post them around here somewhere so when confronted by some of the more wingnutty theists, there might be some effective method of bringing... ... you know when you watch too much star trek when you almost unconciously say 'bringing order to chaos' but I'll actually say rationality to irrationality.

Of course, it's either that or fire, but I know I shouldn't solve all my problems with fire.

I remember I used to go to xtian chat rooms in IRC and for them I was the troll. I used to get kicked out of the room almost every time for trying to combat their fairy tales with rational statements. It was fun though, to read the crap they could come up with.
