Wait wait ... I know!

The mountains were smaller at the time of the flood.

Sorta right... Here's a hint: (the bible was not originally written in English)

What does the language of the original text matter? Are you saying that an omnipotent god allowed his bible to be translated incorrectly?

Kangaroos. Explain Kangaroos. How did they migrate from Turkey to Australia without leaving any evidence?

Are you really this fucking dense?
So again I ask wouldn't a more accurate measure of a mountain be in feet?

In an attempt to settle the dispute and allow cool heads to prevail, how about "really high" or "way up there" or "where eagles dare" or like "where grandpa has no hair?" Hmm...scratch that last one...

Norman and Drich, in addition to the new version of the bible that I am selling at cost (see my post), I will soon be selling a "bullshitometer" that promises to end lengthy posts such as this. It has been calibrated to measure with precision, inflationary rhetoric, unfounded claims to truth, belief systems, and judgmental language. Results are instantly viewable on a 5" X 7" retina display that comes incorporated into the unit. Please circle your response below...

1. Fuck you daver!!
2. Get lost, moron.
3. Tell me more!
4. I'll take one!

Wouldn't the fictional Noah have difficulty breathing if his boat could float above Mt Everest?

uh, no... Because even if the waters rose above Everest, noah on said water would still be at sea level as far as atmospheric conditions are concerned.

Drich, do you mind enlightening us as to what the unit of measurement has to do with the plausibility of the flood story?

Is about perception. Rather what the jew who penned this story perceives to be a mountain or a "tall hill."

In the hebrew the word in the story (gen7) is "har" it literally means high hills. Sometimes it is translated mountain.
http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexi...ongs=H2022

Harar is the word for mountain sometimes translated high hill.
http://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexi...ongs=H2042

Why for the uncertainty? Because 5000 years ago they did not classify mountains as we do now. It was in the eye and words of the one telling the story.

Either way har was the lessor of har and harar. Just like hill is the lessor forum of mountain in the English.

Still don't see how the unit of measurement has anything to do with it.

And don't forget that god intended to kill every living thing, Drich. Flooding the Earth just enough to cover the hills would not accomplish that, as there still would be dry land to take shelter. See the problem?

Just please fucking stop and think about your delusion for a moment and stop embarrassing yourself. You're a grown adult, there's a multitude of reasons why grown adults don't believe in fairy tales like noah and his ark.

ROFLOL

Think about it sport. What is the atmospheric pressure at sea level? 14.7 psi (Google it and come back, was taken from memory I may be wrong)

Now ask yourself why?
Now take your wrong answer and throw it away, now Google it.

You should come up with something like this:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_pressure

In short 14.7 psi is the force or pressure being pushed in one us by the weight of the air around us all the time. The higher we go (away from sea level the thinner the air gets meaning the 14.7 psi gets reduced.)

Now if the ocean topped Everest that would mean around the world water levels would have to rise almost 5 miles, which inturn pushes sea level up 5 miles, and because water/sea water is more dense than air, the atmospheric pressure would also be pushed up 5 miles...

Do you get it yet? Because the sea level rose 5 miles atmospheric pressure also rose 5 miles because the water pushed up the sea level air.
So let's say at Everest atmo pressure is 8.2 psi, now that the ocean is on level with the peak of Everest, that peak is no longer 5 miles above sea level, it becomes the new sea level..
(If you still don't get pm someone before responding and ask them to help you out.)
I know you guys like to pretend to have science on your side, but seriously guys read something other than the anti God propaganda that you all write for yourselves every once in a while. You all are beginning to sound like the corn pones your trying to say christians are.

So In Your opinion if one could flee to a uncovered mountain top, he could have survived the 40 days and nights of rain, 150 days befor the flood water began to recede, and the year year and 1/2 before the ground was dry again... My question to you is what did they eat for all that time?

Do you see your problem yet?

It wouldn't matter, drich. Atmospheric pressure (from your link) is defined as the weight of air from sea level to the top of the atmosphere. As water level increases, the atmosphere doesn't get taller. If sea level were to be re-established at the top of Mt Everest, you'd be five miles closer to the top of the atmosphere, so the pressure would be correspondingly less - you don't get five more miles of atmosphere to compensate.

Your earlier point about the definition of 'har' fails as well, since the verse in Genesis includes all mountains 'under the heavens', not just the ones the myth-makers knew about.
