Ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses

RE: Ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses
Jesus is a goat - oh, I can just see the flood of jokes coming in on that one.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

How are you following that rule if you're approaching and knocking at my front door at eight o'clock on a Saturday morning?  And honestly, I couldn't give two monkey shits what "scriptural obligation" anyone has; don't leave your propaganda on my door, either.

I'd really like an answer to this question.

RE: Ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses
Taken within the -entire- context of the NT (and lets not just forget the OT) the text applies a wonderful mish-mash of descriptors which, if you were to map them out, you'd find many to be shared between dissimilar entities mentioned.  This is -why- the issue of christology splits sects.  Even within the orthodoxy there are nuanced - small, but deeply implicational differences.  All of this is after the multiple interpretations of the texts, some of which wildly diverging (like john 1:1 in the NWT vs the NIV).  Not sure what this should make you doubt - it certainly doesn't say much about god (granted)...though it says plenty regarding our ability to know about god -even if he did exist- by using these texts or following these traditions.

A person might have to get it right -pretty much by accident-, if there were anything to get right in the first place.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

How do the Spanish speaking jehovas witnesses always find me? Is there some sort of radar for people who speak Spanish?

They do it because they feel its the right thing to do for them. I seriously doubt they come around as early as 8am. But if someone comes to my door uninvited, I am usually very cordial. Probably because I can sympathize. But trust me, they're not going to stop coming around anytime soon.

That rule applies to the public witnessing stands, not the door to door work

Quite apart from the report logs, I have that PM open in front of me; and while of course it would not be de rigeur to reveal its contents here in public, I will say that it is as far from being a rebuke as it's possible to get. Please refrain from mischaracterising Staff, otherwise the polite requests may become less so.

As to the presumptions I spoke of: if you really do need a clue, one of them was that I don't read your posts. Just like I'm not doing now, apparently.

I apologize if I mischaracterized the staff. The email was very kind and understanding that it was just a bad joke. I didn't have hurt feelings or feel persecuted.

Well I would like to remind you first that I am agnostic myself and I'm trying to hash out some personal beliefs. I am not sure it'll end with me believing in god or JW's in particular. I don't understand your first question so I'd like to see if you could rephrase it. But as far the second... From a JW perspective, Jesus used an illustration about a wheat field that would be oversewn by an enemy with weeds. Long story short, false christendom are the weeds. The master of the field allows the weeds to grow along side the wheat so that the wheat doesn't get torn up with the weeds and blah blah blah in the end when the difference is clear, the weeds are thrown in the furnace. JW's believe that there were always true christians throughout history but in the critical point of the worlds history, right before the end times, true christianity would have a chance to shine. So we like to believe that JW's believe that they practice the bible closest to the truth than any other religion. And JW's have the largest preaching work worldwide. SO in a nutshell, they need to exist for truth and spreading truth

Right.  Just like all of these other offshoot protestant sects which grew up like weeds in the 19th century because some guy claimed to have had a "revelation" from "fucking god."  I don't give a shit if you don't like it, pal.  But what you were trying to do was set up a false equivalency between the Theory of Evolution and your silly-ass religion.  Evolution has been tested many times by scientists all over the world.  The problem with all religions is that they are not verifiable.  And if you think I'm going to take on "faith" some silly shit invented in 1880 you have another think coming.

Believe it if you like.  But don't expect to come to an Atheist Forum and not hear about it.

Again you're wrong. My point was that your assertion that the religion coming from the 19th century had any backing to whether it was true or not. A claim cannot be dismissed simply by the era it came from. I am not even saying that it isn't horseshit, but you're another example of how atheist are full of bullshit fallacies and bad reasoning just like everyone else.

Then why was your answer to this question about door to door "work":

rexbeccarox Wrote:Why should anyone have to answer the door even once to be put on the Do Not Call list?  I find it extremely rude when people, even those I know and love, ring my doorbell unsolicited.  Why not, instead, set up a booth at a street fair or park where people can approach you?  It would be a more pleasant experience for everyone involved, IMO.

It makes no sense at all.  Absolutely none.  Also, fuck you for suggesting I'm lying that they come around at 8am, and fuck your whole cult for thinking that interrupting strangers' personal lives and barging into their homes is ok.  It's not.  It's a pain in the ass for the vast majority of the population, and the vast majority who don't think it a PIA are just thinking it's a fun time to mess with you.

Seriously, What the fuck is wrong with some of you people? I never called you a liar. I just doubt that its 8am. I know I could be wrong but its a general rule that you wait until 930-10 before you start knocking on doors. So if someone is coming that early that an individual problem. Really stupid of them of starting that early but I know as a member that its more than likely not condoned to start that early.

And fuck you for just brushing everything off by calling JW's a cult and whining about how they're a pain in the ass. I am not here defending them or trying to evangelize. I am trying to come to YOUR side of the table. But you dumb fuckers can only see things in your black and white tunnel vision. Who is in the fucking cult? I can't even have a reasonable conversation with you trying to come to YOUR thinking. They probably are a pain in the ass. But they're doing what they think is right. And if the worse thing in the world is that for 2 minutes of your day they disturb you, well who the fuck cares? Not me. Put a fucking sign on your door that says, "No Jehovah's witnesses" They'll never knock on your door. Hell, Put, "No Jehovah's witnesses or any other cultists" They walk off your doorstep and forget about you 10 seconds later. And if you think that you shouldn't have to do that then move somewhere like China where censorship is ok. But as for me, shut the fuck up

If you hypocrites were truly reasonable, logical, freethinkers then probably instead of taking offense to every word that you don't agree with you could back it with some, I don't know, reasonable, logical, and freethinking discussions.

RE: Ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses
People must really not like having proselytizers show up uninvited on their door I guess. I'm sorry you feel embattled. For what it's worth I think you've been pretty open and fair in much of what you've said. Don't forget you can put those you feel aggravated by on ignore, provided they aren't staff. I never feel I have to answer every and any one. I pick my spots and only engage where it suits me. Pick your battles.
