I made a list of all year:how many movies released in that year, there are about 17725 movies released from year 1887 till year 2015.
For more details on how I made that list
I made a list using wikipedia pages, rapidxml library and my awesome C++ coding skills.
I also made a list of all the movies' name and year, if you want that list or the code, pm me.
From 1967 to 1981, movies per year has been averagely rising up.
and from 1981 to 2004, it has been rising up a lot faster.
but from 2004 till today, movies per year have been going down much faster.
I think the movies amount is declining because the people are not going to the movie theaters much like before.
Why would they go when they can watch the same thing from home, comfortable and wearing no pants, just 2-3 months after it's release date.
What makes people go to the movies these days is the iMax 3D stuff, but not all movies have that feature and not all movies are worth watching in 3D anyway.
so IMO, in order for a movie to really win in the box office, it has to be not only worth watching, but also visually stunning with the 3D/iMax feature, which puts alot of pressure and constraints on the movie producers.
I wish that they would give people the option of streaming new movies straight to their tvs or laptops. Some movies are fun to watch on a big screen but it has gotten so expensive that my family can't go as often as we'd like

I think that Hollywood is simply creatively bankrupt and has partly reduced itself to selling gimmicks. Quality story telling is nowadays found in high budget TV series.
For Jurassic World, we sought out the one theatre in the city which showed in 2D because as far as I am concerned, 3D is crap picture quality for double the price.

I have a feeling that's the way things are moving, and movie releases will be 'split' between cinema and home release. Given the decline of DVD, the ease and massively reduced cost of uploading and distributing movies, and the increasingly narrowing margins facing distribution companies (for example, Amazing Spider-Man 2 made $700 million at the box office, but Sony spent so much on budget and marketing I think it only made ~$70 million net profit). It's coming, but unfortunately Hollywood is still run by stuffy old white men and as such will take its time in adapting, by which point The Pirate Bay will rule the industry anyway.

Yeah I would say movie industry is gowing down. Imagine there was once a time when movie like "The Wild Bunch" was made! That world looks now like some other planet. I mean what do we have today? "Minions" you know yellow creatures with big eyes that talk like babies for everybody to laugh and forget the horrendus problems world is facing. WTF happened?

Anyway, I envision a society that works without the concept of money, something with the work ethic of Danes, the medium wellbeing of western europeans, the idealistic worldview of Americans and the realism of third world populations. In such a world the essentials would be guaranteed to everybody, so artistic work wouldn't have to be monetized but rather it would attract people of like minds.

but they're including stand ups, theatrical plays , documentaries and amateur movies.
