Whenever I mention something bad in the Bible my parents just say "that was when they were under the law". Does God condone any bad stuff in the New Testament, after Jesus' death?

Bad stuff in the New Testament

Slavery reference in 3, 2, 1....
"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken." Sith code RE: Bad stuff in the New Testament

Thought crime is a good one. Selling all of your things and not worrying about the future is another. Drowning people for trying to lead others away from christianity. The existence of an eternal hellfire as punishment for not believing in Jesus.

The 'Jesus' character invented infinite punishment for finite crimes.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
The bad stuff in the new testament is the whole dam book.. bad advise bad writting and of course bad acting..
There are some kernels of good advice in the pile of crap that is the bible, and they're mostly in the new testament. Still, very few if any of those kernels can't be found elsewhere. It's not like the bible is the origin of rules against killing and stealing, and encouraging people to treat others fairly.

You think that book holds any value to us? You think we don't get new people coming here all the time demanding that we discuss that dusty old book that you value so much, and we so little? Do you have any idea how many others indistinguishable from yourself have made similar demands? Do you fancy yourself a special little snowflake? |
