Pet Photos thread where too much is never enough.

Happens twice a year but you'd think it was continuous based on accumulation. We have to vacuum at least 3 times a week.

We have two Golden Retrievers - one red and one blond.  We get multi-colored dust/hair bunnies blowing across the tile whenever the AC kicks on.

I actually got my wife a vacuum cleaner with a canister rather than change the bags every other week.

Beautiful dogs.  Shedding season must be fun!

There's a shedding season????

I can't believe my dogs and cat aren't naked with the amount of fur cleaned up daily.

Yeah, that shedding. We have a Maltese and her hair is everywhere! I'll dry off after a shower and find one of those almost invisibly fine white hairs in my eyelashes. At least it's CLEAN hair! Hilarious

...and, obligatory pic of the little sweetums.

Ebby's ashes came home today along with a clay paw print with her name and birthdate, a vial of her fur and some laminated inked prints of her paws. The box of ashes has "Ebby" on the front plaque. I expected it to take longer and wasn't ready for the reality that she's gone. Sad

I have the ashes of the two dogs I lost in 2016.  I didn't do pawprints.  Lady hated having her feet touched so I didn't want that for her.

The little cedar boxes are on shelves in the office with pictures on top of each with their first collars.  Both had names and nicknames...so their name plates have both on them instead of their name and dates.

It's hard.

It is hard indeed. This is the third pet I now have ashes of. Our second one, Sammy, was just shy of 20 years old when I had to humanely put her to sleep. She was just that old. She couldn't stand for long and I had to cover the couch with plastic and puppy pads. She'd literally stand, pee or poop then lay back down. She licked liquid food off a spoon. I just couldn't watch her suffer anymore. She lived a good life but it was time to let her go. That was 7 years ago and it still hurts. She was with me nearly my entire adult life. She went through two marriages with me, two kids, buying a house, buying my first new car... just lots of firsts in my life.

This one, Ebby, was hard too. My oldest turns 24 on Sunday and I haven't seen her for four years. Ebby was her cat and was the last thing I had to hold on to that was my daughter's. And you know, every time I lose a pet, I say to myself that I'm not going to get another one. I'm just not going to do it. Three years ago, the brothers, Dill and Pickles popped into our lives. You'd think after doing this so many times that I'd learn a lesson. Nope... I am still a sucker for cuteness.

I get it.  After I lost Chopper (he was young and died in his sleep) I got Ziggy.  It was discussed that if we lost another of our dogs we wouldn't get another.  Then when we had to have Lady put down six months later the humans and the animals in the house were lost...so a few months later I got Quinn.  I say there will never be any more...but I don't know if that will be the case.

You both know that you have the love in your hearts for your pets, and won't allow the loss to make you not want more. My little Maltese (is there another size!?) will be 18(!) next year. I wouldn't let her loss sour me on getting a "replacement". There likely isn't a dog that can replace her (she's been the best dog of ever, in my life), but I can still enjoy another dog. They are just so much fun!
