People are leveraging their personal freedom, freedom of the wallet, when they suggest that a provider should remove such content. For some people, it's a new ability. Had they made their complaint before the provider wouldn't have listened, or worse.

Even today it's only temporary. It's coming out for a little bit? There are alot of movies, much better movies, that HBO has permanently deported from their lineup.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

If you don't like movies from a certain era? Don't watch them.
Not a fan of spicy food? Don't eat it.
Don't like a certain type of music don't listen to it.
Radical idea, I know.
Or if you do like movies certain era but find some of it uncomfortable have disclaimer like they did . Movies aren't the same as food you can like elements of a film while other elements uncomfortable . This satisfies both .

Life itself is ugly, that's just the way it is. It isn't meant to be comfortable.

I think we can make an exception for a fictional movie

I think you're missing the point, life itself is far more ugly, if people can deal with reality, fiction is insignificant.

No i'm saying we can control the level of ugliness in a fictional movie .Why wouldn't we?. People deal with that enough in real life .

Agree, but then I'm scratching my head.
Why ban GWTW? Why doesn't society just accept that movie as a piece of pure fiction, like in a parallel universe where the black slaves loved what they did!
Like all the Startrek episodes, Roddenberry wanted to use scifi (as a sandbox) as a way to explore current social/political events in the real world without too much backlash.

I think all movies have a message to pass on. Some messages are more noble than others.
Like many propaganda Nth Korean or German WW2 movies, can't GWTW be construed as a white patriarchal supremacist propaganda movie of its era?

And if so, do we still want to call it art for portraying a skewed version of reality.
I can't see black people watching it as a fictional piece for artistic pleasure when it has such deep real world connotations.
How does one differentiate the two?
I genuinely don't know what the answer is.

But if I want to see the fictional ugliness, who is anyone to contol that?

On some level, I  suspect a skewed version of reality is kind of an inherent part of art. People make art, and NOBODY has a truly unbiased look at the world. It's always skewed towards some lens that distorts it in some way.
