The Spanish Inquisition began by the decree of Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile in 1480, thus making it 350 years as I originally asserted. For some reason you seem to be tacking on the medieval inquisitions of the 12th century to the Spanish Inquisition.

So by this same logic someone could profess to be an atheist and also profess a belief in God and you’d call them an atheist? Definitions matter, a person does not become a Christian by simply professing to be one.

Let me get this straight, Hitler linked Christianity to a political party he hated and was opposed to, said it was the invention of a religious group he also hated, and said it would lead to the failure of all mankind all the while being a Christian? I am sorry, but that’s downright absurd.

Those were God’s judgments Christ was describing, he never said man had the right to execute such judgments. In fact he stopped the crowd from stoning the adulterous woman for this very reason.

Resorting to childish name calling adds no merit to your weak argument. The fingerprints of God’s application of His saving grace are good works and a following of the teachings of Christ. So to say that people who tortured and murdered others were somehow displaying these works is again absurd.

God ceased divine revelation with the death of the apostles, so that’s how I know He did not “tell” them to do anything.

More whining just because I made you look ill-informed I see. You are the one changing definitions, a person is no more a Christian by professing to be one than they are an attorney by just professing to be one. Definitions matter despite what you seem to think.
You are the one who seems to think the Spanish Inquisition started in the 12 cnetury and not the 15th century like history tells us.
Your point was that the inquisition was of the same degree destruction as the atheistic atrocities of the 20th century. I said that more people died in Cambodia in one day than did in 350 years of the Spanish Inquisition. Considering that the average death toll per day of the Cambodian Genocide was 1200 (the inquisition totaling 1400-4500) it is quite possible and very likely that more people did die on certain days than ever did in the inquisition. The truth of the matter is you wanted to play the citation game, and I went through the trouble to play along (something you never did). Even after I did provide all the citations you requested my arguments showed to be quite accurate and yours showed to be absurd (if the inquisition really was on par with the Cambodian Genocide as you initially claimed we would expect 1.7 million people to be killed by it, something no historian believes). Bottom line, I had fun we should definitely do this again sometime! :-D

Actually given how poor their arguments can be, I doubt they are capable of thought crime. Thankfully magic sky genocidal maniac doesn't likely exist.

Why do you forget or ignore the fact that a Christian is someone who by definition has had Christ atone for all of their sins? So they are not “doomed” at all.

Listen, Stat, I told you precisely when the last execution of the Spanish Inquisition happened. That is as far as I got.

As for the rest, I am done speaking with you. I have made my point, over and over. You present no evidence, only baseless assertions. There is no possible way we can carry on a discussion at the rate you are going. So, as I said before, don't bother replying. You accuse me of whining and complain that I call you names? Give me a break. You didn't make anybody look anything, unless you include making yourself look like Sarah Palin on acid.

FYI, stop implying I made claims that I never did to make your posts look more valid. It is borderline lying.

Yes you did, the beginning of the 19th century I believe you said (not real precise though). You then said that somehow proved that my claim that the Spanish Inquisition lasted around 350 years was wrong. I then pointed out that the inquisition began in 1480....let's see… 1480 + 350....1830!!!!! Oh my goodness! I guess I was right, it did last around 350 years. Thanks for playing, talk about borderline lying though.

Yep, that's the consensus of everyone when finished with Statler .... and yet, despite informing him of this repeatedly, he still believes in his own ridiculous conclusions.

Bonafide Christian!

Well despite what you think of me, I still like you and everyone on here for that matter. I guess maybe I don't take things as personal as some do on here. Kind of makes me wonder how they'd react if I called them some of the names I have been called on here. I am a bit scared to even consider that.

Fuck! The Inquisitions began in the 12th century. You are citing the dates of the official sanctioning of it in Spain. Just because an official office of inquisitors was not established until the 1400s in Spain, does not mean people were not dying at the hands of inquisitors before then. Count all of the deaths or stop wasting my time. Besides, all of that is beside the point. Again, there was more than one inquisition. You are only counting one and you are still standing beside your ludicrous statement near the start of this that more people died in one day in Cambodia than in all of the inquisition. You failed to recognize more than one inquisition throughout this, despite the whole point of it being that Christianity is responsible for rampant death throughout history. Instead of facing it head on, you make fucking excuses, "Well, those guys killed more." "Well, it happened so long ago." "Well, they weren't really Christians." I am going to say this one last time and if you don't get it, tough titty. According to the Bible, god chooses Christians. That is all. You don't get to say who is Christian and who isn't, according to your deity. Seeing that I am not Christian and atheists are not decided in the same way, yes, I can say a person is not atheist if he clearly believes in god. You just decide who fits what bill according to what would make you feel more justified. It is asinine.

Stifle the pity party. Just because you can be enormously dishonest and difficult to debate with because of it does not mean that people are taking it personally.

I think you have been called a dork. That is all I have seen. I sincerely doubt there would be a backlash worthy of fear if you called people dorks. Oh, I did call you a fucker, but the tone was meant to be humorous/sarcastic. You obviously do take things personally or you would not hone in on these "insults" every time they arise. You would ignore them, which you clearly do not. Of course, that is not to say that you are not allowed to be offended. As always, if something offends you or you feel you are being mistreated, talk to a mod or an admin.

Well you said the Spanish Inquisition, so I counted the deaths that were accumulated in the period known by Historians as the "Spanish Inquisition" which was a time period of 350 years. Forgive me if that sounds unreasonable to you. If we were talking about how many people died in the war with Germany I would certainly go by the official dates of the war and also only include the war in Europe, but maybe that is also unreasonable to you.

If that is all you have seen then you need to pay better attention. I even reported a post where I was told to suck a fart out of someone's ass and called a closet homosexual; of course these were just ignored and I was told to stop abusing the "report function". Now I have you calling me a "f@cker" and a "bitch" and then pretending as if it is some funny joke. Then you tell me if I find these offensive to report them to a mod, but somehow I feel that if I did that you would just tell me to stop abusing the report function. What a fun little game to play. I am a fairly thick skinned individual but for you to live under the delusion that I have not been personally attacked on here is really sad considering it's your job to keep an eye out for that sort of thing.
Saying that is all scripture says about what it means to be a Christian is a gross and I would have to say intentional oversimplification.

I mentioned the Spanish Inquisition, as far as points go, once. You are the one who has been clinging to it, knowing full well that your original made up statistic was not limited to the Spanish Inquisition. Stop getting hung up on that and admit that you made up that little ditty and presented it as fact. You and I both know that you did. You feel like it is possible, so you asserted it as fact. You are now going so far off topic because you don't want to admit that, despite its being the very reason for this debate.

I do not read every thread and I am under no obligation to do so.

I do recall the former, but did not see the latter, that I can recall. As for the former, I believe it was handled.

Excuse me, but I believe you are merely assuming this was ignored. We don't make every message we send public. Furthermore, you were told to stop abusing the report function casually in a thread. You were not given an official warning for it. It was merely to point out the fact that you were continuously reporting posts for things that were not against the rules. If you want to derail this thread even further and talk about this nonsense, that is your decision, but I am starting to think we have gone too far off-topic on this thread.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: Now I have you calling me a "f@cker" and a "bitch" and then pretending as if it is some funny joke.

I wasn't pretending it was a funny joke. I was pointing out that my tone was meant to be humorous and taken lightly.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: Then you tell me if I find these offensive to report them to a mod, but somehow I feel that if I did that you would just tell me to stop abusing the report function.

No, if you continued to report posts that were not against the rules, I would tell you to stop abusing the report post function. If you find my manner offensive, please report it. The other mods will handle it. As it is, I am going to bow out of this thread from here on in because you are, contrary to your own belief, taking this far too seriously and refusing to stick to the points.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: What a fun little game to play.

It is not a game, Stat. Your obvious belief that it is so explains why you have so much difficulty here. You appear to be baiting rather than debating.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: I am a fairly thick skinned individual

Au contraire. You are actually quite easily offended, as it appears.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: but for you to live under the delusion that I have not been personally attacked on here is really sad considering it's your job to keep an eye out for that sort of thing.

I suffer no delusions, stat. Again, I cannot read every thread and all of your reported posts were handled or deemed to be regarding something that was not against the rules.

(June 6, 2011 at 8:53 pm)Statler Waldorf Wrote: Saying that is all scripture says about what it means to be a Christian is a gross and I would have to say intentional oversimplification.

Hey, if you think god gave you the job of sorting out the Christians from the rest of the rabble, that is your problem. Now, I am done with this thread. If you have a particular issue relating to your reports, I suggest you handle it with me privately or report this to other mods so we can discuss it.
