The important thing to know is that the beating is allowed only for a good reason such as to discipline them. And the beating cannot be anything severe. It's just a light type of beating as parents do to their children. But again, it's encouraged by Islam not to hit our wives or children and instead be patient towards them as much as possible.
Quote:"The law does not ask husbands to beat their wives, it only means a man cannot be charged with anything if the beating did not leave any marks," Dr al Shamsi said. "It is a beating for discipline, not a violent or a vengeful beating. The Prophet said: Only a wicked person hits his wife."

So wickedness is okay, then? Could the wife be given the same latitude for the same wickness? Or is that equitable proposition too much for omnipotence?
