Yes, that's a decent answer. It seems to suggest that God is not the sole author of morality, though. If "following your heart" produces a different result to simply doing what God says, this points to a separate source. And if you'd listen to it over God who is standing right in front of you, clearly God is a minor contributor.

It means he thinks Abraham and the Israelites are assholes. Either that, or his heart would tell him to murder, rape, etc., whenever god commanded it.
I agree that if you follow your heart rather than God, then God is not the arbiter of right and wrong, and God is pretty much irrelevant to morality.
