Yes, that's a decent answer. It seems to suggest that God is not the sole author of morality, though. If "following your heart" produces a different result to simply doing what God says, this points to a separate source. And if you'd listen to it over God who is standing right in front of you, clearly God is a minor contributor.

It means he thinks Abraham and the Israelites are assholes. Either that, or his heart would tell him to murder, rape, etc., whenever god commanded it.
I agree that if you follow your heart rather than God, then God is not the arbiter of right and wrong, and God is pretty much irrelevant to morality.
The God character of the Bible was simply the series of men who ruled the dominant Middle Eastern empires in ancient times. People did as they were told to do or else they were killed. And when the leader was an insane nut people were always being killed.
