I agree that at least one of those must be true. But they are also not mutually exclusive; they can both be true.

If I were a Republican (which is virtually impossible for me to imagine), sure, but many actual Republicans are not. Because if he believes that many Republicans are idiots, he is right. Many of them are too stupid to see that his ideas are lunacy, because they are lunatics, too.
