C.S. Lewis is a great word saladist.
Mostly I think Lewis thinks the average Englishman of 1940 is the average man. His ability to see beyond that his circumstance was even more limited than your average thinker.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
