I had a midwife with my first pregnancy out of respect for my mother in law. After 23 hours of labor it turned into a prayer chain.
I ended up in the hospital with an emergency C section and a baby in fetal distress.
8 years later and in my 30's I went the traditional route and had a successful vaginal delivery with no problems.
I'm not against midwives, it's not for me though. Not sure if it has anything to do with the op, just wanted to tell the story.
Sigh. Discussed this a lot during wife's pregnancy this year. We decided to go to a supermax clinic with all specialists imaginable in-house and an operating table in the next room that can be prepared for emergency C-section in 3 minutes

We still have a midwive for counseling and checkups during the first months after birth as is customary here. Many of them are slightly into woo, but we have so much skeptic literature laying around in our apartment that she probably never even got the idea to offer us homeopathey etc...

Religion is not an issue here anyways.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
