Find a good friend (you seem a nice person, I'm sure you have them), a friend who is willing to help you in an experiment. Preferably a friend who likes sport.
Give your friend a rock. Doesn't have to be a particularly large rock - half a kilo or so should do nicely.
Have your friend move about seven or eight steps away from you, and then throw the rock as hard as he possibly can at your nose. When the bleeding stops, repeat the experiment several times in order to increase your data set.
Now: Did the material rock hitting your material nose over and over again seem irrational to you?
