Ehm, dirtbag's a bit harsh. Just common thinking errors that almost everyone has, if they have not been taught about human errors like confirmation bias, etc., and learned to screen out those basic errors. It seems reasonable to them, therefore it is reasonable.
The entire field of illusion ("magic") is centered around the idea that people will believe what their eyes tell them reasonably happened, except it's not at all what happened; the tricks are all designed to take advantage of the erroneous ways we tend to process information, of how our pattern-seeking brains form their particular patterns. (Sorry for the alliteration. Unintentional.)
Edit to Add: I've heard that the smarter a person is, the MORE likely they are to be taken-in by an illusion, because it is designed to trick our pattern-seekers, and a smarter brain is more likely to leap to the conclusion the illusionist wants them to draw, whereas a dimwit won't be fooled by the trick and will keep watching the hand that palms the dove instead of the distraction.

A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
