You still have the right to pray in school. No one ever took that right away. Government staff aka school employees just aren't allowed to enforce that prayer on people who don't want to do it.
If your god is so awesome and powerful then instead of watching "his people" die of horrible things, he could, you know, being all powerful and everything, just make sure none of the bad stuff happens. However, because he's imaginary, he has failed time and time again to stop it. What's that saying? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
