It's hard to say. George said in interviews that Anikan "made a deal with the devil" but in the movie he kind of IS the devil. It's really hard to say because Palpatine is the mastermind. It'd be like of the biblical devil was being manipulated by a higher evil to do his deeds and lead the rebellion.

Yes I agree, it's not a retelling. Though, it is borrowing certain aspects from the bible and these other things and being told in a seemingly original manner.
Yeah I agree Palpatine would be considered the all encompassing evil, Satan isn't all bad you know..
