This is so accurate it's not even funny. I have a good friend who is Muslim. A very good friend. My husband and I flew all the way out to Pennsylvania for 2 days just to go to his wedding.
Anyway, whenever we get into the topic of radical Islam (which is not very often at all), he immediately gets extremely defensive and starts rambling off about how CNN is reporting all this stuff and making Islam look bad and yadda yadda. And I'll be like... "like what? What did they do that made you guys look bad?" Him: "Well like the other day they had a Muslim on there they were interviewing and they asked him if he agreed with what Isis is doing. Like, why did they even ask?? Of course he doesn't agree! And they always report what is going on in the Middle East."
This was a real conversation. It blows my mind that they are more outraged/concerned about white people "making them look bad" by reporting/addressing the problem, than they are about ISIS making them look bad by slaughtering children!
I love my friend and don't hold anything against good Muslim people for being Muslim. But it does drive me crazy when they take this sort of attitude in the face of innocent people getting mass murdered.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
