I'm not sure that dogs actually know what a book is beyond how it tastes. I think they forget what it tastes like very quickly too.
Why she hung and burnt the dog is beyond me... this might have more to do with her sadism than her religion. When I need to put a dog down, i shoot it. Then I dig a hole somewhere, dump corpse in, and cover the hole back up. She didn't even remove the makeshift noose from around it's neck... seems like more of a sicko every moment to me.
