Stupidity and greed make people choose to live right in the middle of a Fire-Hazard trap with only one road out not river is needed chuckie; just a ridge top with a million dollar view across the valley is enough to get you killed and your property burnt to the ground. 10 years of drought will also help in this area. Don't know why the government of Oz is sending all the refugees from Christmas Island out to Northam where there is no water and plenty of earth quakes...weird that.
You Australians imagine a quiver underfoot near hunter-mooki thrust and you think you know earthquakes. I live where the earth moved 350 miles in horizontally and at least 30000 feet vertically in 17 million years, I know earthquakes.
No disrespect for your experience chuckie....but the fact that there ARE earth quakes in Australia is no reason to say that ANYWHERE on the planet is inert from the occasional if not frequent movement of any fault line, subduction zone or "dead" caldera.
