Because I realized that all the reasons I had for believing were fallacious and unfounded, and that anything I attributed to a 'god' in the past were either my own personal thoughts and beliefs or simply chance events. And I didn't just "decide" to stop believing, I realized I simply couldn't believe, I was no longer convinced.
The fact that the Catholic church has so much about it that I now consider horridly immoral and harmful is beside the point, but looking back on it I don't know how I ever could believe that stuff, except that of course it was pushed onto me from a very young age.
