The red-white-red triband of Austria has been in almost continuous use since the 1290's and is a representation of the colours of the house of Babenberg the first dukes of Austria, who as the legend goes were granted them after the battle of Acre in 1191 based off the bloodstained tunic he used as a banner after his original was destroyed in the fighting.
Most European flags have a symbolism far more ancient and significant than the US flag.
While the black-red-golden color scheme of the current German flag has occurred already back in the middle ages, the choice for the flag is inspired by the uniform colors of the all-German army fighting back Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century. Germany as a nation state hasn't really existed for that long.
