Don't burn it, but lets make money

RE: Don't burn it, but lets make money
It's that time of every other year again here when people start plastering everything with flags. I already hate it.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Psalm 14, KJV revised edition

In 1910 people formed living flags.

The red-white-red triband of Austria has been in almost continuous use since the 1290's and is a representation of the colours of the house of Babenberg the first dukes of Austria, who as the legend goes were granted them after the battle of Acre in 1191 based off the bloodstained tunic he used as a banner after his original was destroyed in the fighting.

Most European flags have a symbolism far more ancient and significant than the US flag.

While the black-red-golden color scheme of the current German flag has occurred already back in the middle ages, the choice for the flag is inspired by the uniform colors of the all-German army fighting back Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century. Germany as a nation state hasn't really existed for that long.

You'll notice I never said it had more significance, nor did I say it was longer standing.

The lore is what I am invoking. The Star Spangled Banner at Fort McHenry, it's prominence in revolutionary art, Old Glory, Iwo Jima, the moon landing, post 9/11 nationalism.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Rather to the Prussian voluntaries and their homemade uniforms. Later on the colors were used by the first half democratic attempt at the parliament at Frankfurt in 1848.

Homemade, yes. But I wasn't aware that it was all Prussian?

These guys. The so called Lützower Freikorps.

As you know, Germany was deeply divided during Napoleon's time. Some states allied, some neutral and some opposed. The tricolore only became something like a German symbol during the "Deutsche Bund" after 1815.

Those are the guys I was referring to. I don't know for sure, but suspect, that the fact that the volunteers came from various different parts of the country, has something to do with the use of the colours for the unified state - but you are way more of an expert there.

It was much more of a banality. It was their uniforms. Black, golden buttons, red collar and butresses.
