Church and christian school could be a lot worse. Think continued home school (24/7 mom) or the dreaded military school. Worse, boarding schools for troubled teens.

I don't think he's angry about the possessions itself but how his parents are forcing him into something he doesn't like, restricting his freedom. And doing so by threatening things he likes, manipulating him using things he likes. You wouldn't be pissed in a situation like that? I know many have it much worse than them, doesn't mean Soc can't be upset. That's how humans are, we all complain despite having it much better than many others, one is not necessarily spoiled for doing so except if it's excessive. But if you get upset in a situation like Soc is in right now, you have every right to do so. Being angry and upset when something is taken away from you and when you're forced to do something you don't like is a natural reaction. But, at the same time you have much more life experience than both of us, I can't say you're wrong, just trying to clarify that imo it's ok for Soc to be upset despite having it better than other 15 year olds. Once you have stuff once considered valuable for a while you become desensitized to it and value it less. In that case, despite having it better than others it's still ok to be a little upset for a while.
