The vast majority of Christians is not every religious person in the world. I'm trying to make the case for respecting religion, not religious indoctrination or forcing religious beliefs on others.

Exactly the point you are missing. An atheist may very well respect a religious person, cause as you said, each individual is different, but respecting religion cannot happen while knowing it is a baseless toxic mechanism, that at best gives faux hope and causes direct or indirect harm in most cases.
